I guess that day was today. I were already wrapping up with my mates the plan for the next mission, when Alpha boomed through the link, “Your mate is in trouble. Packhouse. Now!” I ran like my life depended on it—because hers might. I shot a message through the mind link for another warrior to finish without me as I sprinted across the field, pushing every bit of speed my wolf could give me. He was just as frantic as I was.

I watch him pass me and note the lettering on the back of his cut. Nightmare Warriors.

The waves draw it out, scattering it, spreading the foul scent with every lapping, angry exhale coming from the sea. I stumble, turning from the water, my mouth hanging ajar as I look up at the cliffs hanging over the beach. Warriors in their human form dart back and forth, screaming for their comrades to run, while others–Teskan warriors–send arrows flying into the mist. It won’t make a difference, but the distractions the arrows cause are at least enough for the warriors scrambling off the beach to get to safety. But I’m too far away.

Their eyes glowed red, their growls echoing like thunder. “Hold the line!” I roared. Warriors from Moonclaw and the allied packs braced themselves, forming ranks. Shields clanged, claws extended, the air thick with fear and fury. When the rogues finally broke through the fog, the world erupted. The world turned to chaos. Wolves collided midair, snarls and screams echoing through the night. I tore through the first rogue with my claws, silver blood splattering across my armor. They came in waves, relentless, crazed, their numbers impossible to count.

If something wrong was currently happening, it was an effect of two causes: either they were too powerful and smart or the warriors had turned lacadastic and careless. “You can rise.” I said to the scout, turning to the warriors at my back. “Ayyyeee!!!!” I shrieked. “Ayyyyeeee!!!” The cacophonous echo of the warriors responded. “Warriors, get ready. For what we are about to face demands our blood and fullness to the heritage of the Darkmoon pack,” I ordered. “We're moving immediately.”

"I am here to deliver a message. Surrender now, or face utter annihilation. The rogue werewolves are amassing their forces, and you cannot hope to stand against us." Alex's eyes narrowed. "We will never surrender. We will fight to protect our people and the supreme god's power." The rogue werewolf laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down their spines. "So be it. Their eyes looked like glowing coals, and their howls sounded eerie. Nyxara tapped the map. “Three days’ travel from here. Their numbers… grow daily.” Seraphine frowned. “This isn’t merely scouting. They’re preparing. They know something is stirring.” Elias cleared his throat. “We feared the chain's breaking would invite more. Maelor’s unbinding could be the first, but not the last.” Jayden entered then, his presence pulling the room taut. “What do we know?” Seraphine looked up, voice steady despite the tension. “They are called the Scourged, led by Maelor. But rumors speak of others—beasts older than wolves, drawn by the awakening of ancient ties.”

I didn't really want to talk about Jayne or David though because it was still too painful to think about the both of them - even Link ignored it if it ever came up as a topic of conversation and we had never talked about it with each other. I smiled to myself as we finally crossed the line for my territory. I knew my warriors would be here any second because they would smell Bradley and that meant they would smell a rogue but the moment they saw he was with me, they would back the hell down and they would simply escort us back to the house.
