Its eyes were burning yellow embers, and sulfurous vapor rolled from its open mouth, warping the air around it. The vampires flanked it. One held something small and glowing in his hand and murmured words I recognized immediately.

Its eyes glowed with an eerie, green light, and its fur was matted and unkempt. Rorik and Lyra recognized the creature immediately.
