Rue didn’t knock. He didn’t even hesitate. He shoved the door open like he owned the damn place, and honestly? He kind of did—at least right now . I followed closely behind him, heart thumping like a warning drum, but the fire in my chest was burning too hot for fear to sit still.
Voices were already rising from the living room. We both froze for a second, standing behind the half-wall divider. Valerie’s voice came sharp and loud.
“You’ve been drinking again?! Seriously, Williams? What kind of man chooses a bottle over his family? I am pregnant! i don’t deserve this stress !”
“Oh, please, Valerie,” Williams slurred, his voice defensive and cracked. “I came home, didn’t I? What more do you want?”
The sheer irony made me laugh out loud.
Valerie had snatched this trash from me , for her to handle , it was her trash now .
