The break room was mercifully empty. My hands shook slightly as I prepared his coffee, spilling a few drops on the counter. At least no one was around to witness my clumsiness.
I balanced the steaming mug carefully as I approached his office, taking deep breaths to steady myself. A quick knock, and then I pushed the door open.
I entered his office, my heels clicking softly against the hardwood floor. Alexander sat behind his desk, focused on his computer screen with that intense concentration I'd come to recognize.
"Your coffee, Mr. Knight." I placed the mug carefully on his desk, making sure to avoid the scattered papers.
He glanced up, his eyes meeting mine. "Thank you, Madison." His fingers brushed against mine as he reached for the mug, sending tingles up my arm.
