Alex didn’t dwell on the small details, still completely immersed in the joy of seeing his Uncle Justin finally making progress in his love life.
“Uncle Justin, Mommy really liked the gift you gave her!” Alex said happily.
Even though no one else was in the room, he still lowered his voice as if sharing a big secret, just like he used to.
“She accepted it! She didn’t smile, but as her precious son, I know she liked it!”
But Justin showed no excitement. He remained quiet, uncharacteristically indifferent.
Instead, he simply said, “As long as she likes it, that’s good.”
“But Uncle Justin, where did you go tonight?” Alex pressed. “A gift like that should be given in person! That way, you can see the person’s reaction!
“If Mommy had smiled, wouldn’t that mean she’d agree to be with you on the spot?” Alex chattered on, caught up in his own imagination.
Even with Alex trying his best to lighten the mood, Justin remained silent and brooding.
