Just for a moment, she thought she saw greediness in her eyes, but then that look went away so fast that Penny thought she had imagined. She smiled. It was just a friendly talk from a client. But how could she say that the necklace never comes off, so she lied, “This is a gift, which I can’t give to anyone because I love it like hell!” She let out a mock laughter.
Haley’s reverie broke. She laughed along with her and nodded. “Of course! It would be unwise of me to ask you to give it to me even for a day. After all it is a gift.” She placed her hand on Penny’s and added, “I am sorry to even ask like that, but this is a pretty necklace.”
Her eyes were so soft and kind that Penny softened immediately. “No problem, Haley” she replied.
