I barely made it out of the house before Slade roared in my head, a deafening snarl that sent shudders down my spine. My muscles tensed, my vision blurred at the edges as my wolf fought to take control. My legs moved on their own, carrying me into the thick of the woods, away from the scent that was driving me to the brink of madness.

“No!” I hissed through clenched teeth, gripping my head as if that would somehow shut him out. My nails dug into my scalp, my breaths coming in ragged gasps. I could still smell her—Avery.
