CHAPTER 21

ZYLIAH'S POV

I pushed my cart slowly through the vegetable aisle, scanning shelves for parsley to use in tonight’s dinner. The boys were spending the day with Delia, and Natasha had gone along with them too.

I was still giving her the cold shoulder, so she was trying to soften me up by doting on my boys. I had no issues with whatever she wanted to do for them, but for now, I didn’t want to talk to her.

Finally seeing the last bunch of parsley, I hurried to go grab it before someone else did. Just as I got my fingers on it, another hand reached for the same bunch at the exact moment.

I tossed it into my cart in one fast motion, not giving them a chance to grab it first.

I lifted my head, my curiosity already buzzing, to see who I’d just beat to the parsley. My left brow twitched in surprise.

Suddenly remembering his attitude from a few days back, my expression morphed to something unfriendly.

I pivoted my cart sharply and steered it straight toward the checkout count

CHAPTER 29 ZYLIAH’S POV “How did it go?” Delia asked as soon as I entered the living room, freshly showered and in more comfortable clothes. The boys, worn out from all the games and all the food they’d been stuffed with, had passed out the second they hit the shower. It had been more stressful bathing and dressing them up for bed. It was evening, I was sure they’d only be waking up the next morning. “Hectic and filled with drama.” A big yawn tore my mouth open. “Is there food at home?” “I’ve ordered Thai, five portions. Two for the boys, just in case they decide to wake up later and ask for food,” she said. “Oh, that’s nice. Thank you.” She pulled a face. “I’m not doing it for gratitude. I’m just going to miss you guys so much, you know.” “What are you saying? Missing us? Julia, the realtor, still hasn’t gotten us a house that fits me and the boys. I’m still waiting on her call for whenever she finally finds one,” I explained, a bit puzzled by her words. She snorted. “Who’

CHAPTER 28 SABRINA’S POV The drive home was silent and thick with tension. I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. The doctor had declared me free to go and said I just needed to rest at home for a few days before returning to my normal routine. Mom had left in her own car because she said she had an important meeting with someone she couldn't cancel on. I’d cried to the point I couldn’t cry anymore even if I tried. My eyes were dry, but my heart felt very heavy. As for my husband, I dared not look at his side profile too long without feeling that creeping apprehension flood me all over again. He parked in the garage and stepped out of the car without a word to me, heading straight into the house. I followed like an obedient, defeated lamb walking to the kill. “Dad? What are you doing here?” The surprise in his tone was obvious. My heart skipped when I realized my father-in-law was in our home. Why was he even here? “I went to the office and they told me you rushed out b

CHAPTER 27 ZYLIAH’S POV “What?! You cannot be serious!” Who did this guy think he was? Some sort of god? “I play with anything but not those who are family, and this result says those boys are my family. You cannot take them away. I will not let you.” “Do not let me…” “Both of you sit down.” Grandma Charlotte’s voice was calm but carried a steely warning that left no room for either argument or disobedience. Quietly but still fuming, I took the chair across from his and sat down. He was assessing me coldly, as if he was trying to figure me out. I ignored him. “This is not the way to go about this. All this quarreling and bickering won’t solve anything,” Grandma Charlotte began. “Sayge, you do not just order the mother of your kids to leave them and go. What is wrong with you? You were raised better than this. She went through all the troubles of pregnancy, labor pains, delivery, and raising them to this age. She’s not some nanny you paid or a surrogate mother. She is their

CHAPTER 26 ZYLIAH’S POV “Oh, Sayge, you’re home. Welcome, darling.” The way her eyes lit up, it was obvious she loved her grandson deeply. “Yes, I am, Grandma Charlotte.” The way he crossed the room in long strides to embrace his grandmother showed that love was well returned. He turned to his father and bent to give him a hug. “How are you, Dad?” “Now that I see her, I’m fine.” He smiled and tapped Sayge on the shoulder. By ‘her’, he was referring to me. I wondered what that meant. He groaned. “It’s not what you’re thinking, Dad.” Despite the gruff response, it was obvious he cared deeply for his father. Well, that was a plus for him. If the DNA result revealed him to be the father, then my boys were in luck. I knew what I said about not wanting him near my kids, but seeing how he’d interacted with his father and grandmother, he was definitely a family kind of guy, so he’d love the boys too. Unless I was wrong. He finally cast his gaze my way, and though it was done covert

CHAPTER 25 ZYLIAH’S POV I was only here because Charlotte had asked me to come but nothing prepared me for the sight before me. “Wow! Mummy this house is magni-scent!” Waylen exclaimed, his eyes almost bulging out of their sockets. I let out a light laugh. “Yes, baby, it is magnificent,” I replied, silently correcting his pronunciation of the word. “And beautiful, mummy. It’s bigger than our house and Aunt Delia’s house together.” Casper’s eyes shone in childlike admiration. “Yes, it is.” The house we lived in before we came down to Greenvylle was big and luxurious but it was nothing compared to this. This was huge! Like palace kind of huge! A bit confused on where to park my car, I decided to park a few feet from a fountain which had the sculpted image of a mythical Olympian god, Zeus. A young guy dressed as a valet hurried towards me. “Good day, ma’am. Let me help you with your car. The garage for guests is at the other end of the building.” They had a garage for guest

CHAPTER 24 SABRINA’S POV “Fynn, what is wrong with you? Your wife is in the hospital. You need to come see her.” A pause. “Why can’t you show some support? This is my daughter we’re talking about.” Another beat of silence. “No, she didn’t lose the baby.” A pause again. “Fine, I’ll be expecting you.” A tear slipped quietly from my eye and slid slowly across my cheek. “He didn’t want to come, right?” I turned my head to face my mother. “You’re awake. When did you wake up?” she asked, concern masking her expression. “Long enough to hear you lie just to get him to show up.” I sniffled, my heart breaking. “How did you know I lied? You didn’t lose the baby…” “Don’t lie to me, Mom. I bled right before I passed, and it’s always the same. That’s how it started with the first miscarriage. I know what it means by now.” Sadness blended into her concern as she held my hand, squeezing it comfortingly. “You’re not barren, that’s something. You can still get pregnant. You and your hu
