Carlos’s voice rang like thunder in the bar, firm and commanding. His presence washed a wave of relief over me, like the desert rain, refreshing and lifesaving.
For a brief second, no one dared to speak as the goons scrambled to their feet and fled, gasping in horror. Beta Conrad followed them outside to arrest them. Then Ella scoffed, her heels clocking loudly on the floor as she took a step forward, arms folded like the same arrogance she always wore like a designer’s coat.
“Oh, how noble!” She sneered. “But I have to ask, Alpha Carlos. Why are you siding with an outsider instead of your own family? Shouldn’t you be concerned about the Ledger family’s reputation like the rest of us?”
Carlos didn’t blink, his jaw was stone, his shoulders broad and unmoving. “Your concern for honor reeks of selfishness, Ella. I care more about the truth than a name that’s being dragged through filth because of people like you.”
