When Alessandro returned, I knew he was going to tell me something bad.
I didn't know exactly what, nor the dimensions of the horror he would tell me, but I knew in my bones that it was very terrible of my family. I looked at him expectantly, fearfully, but hoping that he would finally decide to stop seeing me from the veil of protection to see me from the veil of truth.
