Erica:
We all headed back. I couldn’t explain how grateful I was. I had kissed death and now I was back. Now I could see my kids.
My heart was racing. I could still see my dad’s handsome face etched in my mind’s eye. He was alright, resting in peace I guess. He didn’t say a word to me but the smile on his face said plenty and that was more than enough for more.
I expected the kids to come running into my arms as soon as the door was opened but the house was deathly silent.
Savannah was at the dining table when we walked in and she had a bright smile on her face.
“Erica, you’re back.”
Her smile faded a little as she took me in.
“You look terrible. Tired. Did something happen? Is everyone alright?”
Her eyes left me and rested on Robert who smiled warmly at her.
“I… I’ll make tea for everyone. Oh my goodness…”
She rushed into the kitchen and Robert followed her closely behind. I was too tired to fit puzzle pieces together. I just wanted to check on the kids and get some sleep.
