I turned on the couch, curling tighter into myself as I wrapped my arms over my chest. The breeze from the air conditioner brushed across my skin, cool and biting. I shifted again, trying to get comfortable, but the chill kept creeping in, making sleep harder to hold onto. My eyes fluttered open, and I sat up slowly, blinking at the soft light filtering in through the curtains.
The living room was quiet. I rubbed my arms and looked around, confusion settling in. I looked at the phone in my hand to check if Edward had called back but I was met with no calls from him.
Edward didn't come home last night. The words echoed in my thoughts as worries settled in. I stood up, brushing my hair out of my face, and was about to head toward the stairs when I noticed a figure on the other couch. My heart skipped.
“Edward?” I said, blinking in disbelief.
He lifted his head from his palms slowly. His eyes met mine, red-rimmed and tired. There was there was guilt and worry on his face.
