Lexie’s POV
I noticed the shock on Lucinda's face when she left the table right after Patrick stood up. Something was going on, and I felt uneasy. The way Melissa watched the situation, it was as if she'd picked up on something I'd missed. Then I heard Patrick's voice, loud and angry, and a phrase that chilled me to the bone. "Don't call me bonbon," he said. I remembered that day in his office when he told me he didn't like bonbons. This meant something - something I didn't want to discover but needed to.
I left the table on impulse, didn't even bother asking to be excused or pay attention to my mother calling after me as if scolding me. When I reached the living room, I saw two women there. I didn't know them, but the redhead - oh, I had a pretty good idea who she was. And I heard her say that he loved her and they could pick up where they left off.
I felt a sharp pain, as if a razor was slicing through my flesh. When I looked at Patrick, what did I see? I saw he didn't want me there,
