Lucas barely had time to react. The door swung open, and the last person he expected to see waltzed in like she owned the place. Tania.
Her expression was unreadable. Pale face, lifeless eyes, and dried lips that hadn't seen water in hours. She didn't say a word to him. Instead, she brushed past, her shoulders squared with the kind of determination that made Lucas's stomach tighten.
"Tania... what a surprise," he managed, voice tight as he quickly closed the door behind her. His eyes darted anxiously around the room. The food. The football match. Sofia. She was still upstairs. If she saw Tania here, it would be chaos.
Tania made no reply. She walked straight to the table, picked up the glass of orange juice meant for Sofia, and downed it in a single gulp.
“Ahh..” she sighed with satisfaction.
“Wow. You're that thirsty huh?” Lucas asked again.
Silence.
Tania still didn't respond. Then she reached for a cookie.
Lucas was at her side in seconds. He caught her wrist before s
