The atmosphere in the car wasn't so pleasant. I could feel the tension, as Vincenzo was grumpy throughout the drive to the mall.
He kept looking in the rearview mirror, and judging from his tightly clenched jaw, I could tell he was glaring at Kaspar, who's sitting in the back seat.
Kaspar is awfully quiet; it's almost like he's reflecting on his mistake. I cleared my throat quietly and faced him.
"What do you say about getting a haircut?" I asked him, trying to lighten up the mood a bit.
My question earned me a warning growl from Vincenzo, but I ignored him.
"Would you like a buzz cut like the old times? Or do you want to try something else?"
He took a peek at Vincenzo before looking back at me, silently asking if it's safe for him to speak. I gave him an encouraging nod, and he gulped before speaking.
"A buzz cut would do," he replied in a quiet voice. He's choosing his words carefully, as he's scared of what Vincenzo's reaction would be.
