My father had been knocked out for a moment but had just woken up. When he saw everyone still standing around, he immediately got angry.
“What are you all doing? Cindy’s still upstairs waiting!”
He kicked the surgical bed with frustration.
“Leave her there. She’ll get up when she’s tired of playing this game. She’s always been so dramatic.”
Right then, my dad’s phone rang.
As soon as he picked up, his voice softened with affection. “Sweetheart, just wait a little longer, I’ll be there soon. Okay, I’m putting it on speaker…”
It was Cindy’s voice that came through next. “Peter, Shawn, are you guys okay? Is my sister refusing to save me? Don’t make her feel bad. I’m born weak… Maybe I should just die.”
She even started fake crying.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the room was tense and grim. She always had a way of acting that way around the two men.
“Peter, Shawn, I’m not afraid of dying, really. It doesn’t matter if I die. But I-I’m terrified of not seeing you two again…”
