I've been to the hotel twice. The girl at the front desk looked at me like I was some desperate ex, relentlessly offering the same rehearsed line every time.
“Sorry, sir. She checked out yesterday morning. No forwarding address left.”
It was both ludicrous and terrifying. How could she just disappear from the planet and I was supposed to keep breathing like nothing happened? Checked out?
It made no sense. Where the hell would she go? Dala had no one around.
I ran a hand through my hair for the umpteenth time, I might just rip them out at this point. I pranced the room, breathless. Nobody knew where she had gone. I was losing my mind.
