Andre’s orders were immediately carried out by the nurse. The woman in a light blue uniform quickly felt Lara’s pulse and then measured her blood pressure.
“Her blood pressure is normal, doctor,” the nurse said while jotting down the results on a clipboard. “But her pulse is weak and irregular.”
Andre immediately began CPR—cardiopulmonary resuscitation. His hope was that Lara would start breathing normally again.
“Lara, please,” Andre murmured as he placed his hands on Lara’s chest and began chest compressions at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. He also opened her airway and gave rescue breaths after every 30 chest compressions. Andre continued the CPR, hoping that Lara would regain consciousness.
“How is she, Doctor?” the nurse asked with a worried expression.
“Look!” After a few minutes of CPR, Lara’s fingers began to twitch. Shortly after, she slowly opened her eyes. Although she looked weak and confused, Lara started moving her fingers and opening her mouth.
