I was awoken by my ringing phone, causing me to groan tiredly as I reached for it sleepily. I didn't bother to check who the caller was before taking the call.
"Hello!" I spoke on the phone, yawning and rubbing my eyes.
"Happy birthday to you, darling."
My eyes snapped open when I heard my dad's voice through the phone, and I realised that it was still in the middle of the night. But wait... is it my birthday today?
"Are you there, darling?" His voice brought me back to reality, and I batted my eyelashes.
"Yes, daddy. Thank you. I didn't realise it was my birthday today." I combed through my hair with my fingers frustratingly and tiredly. I've been busy for the past few days, reading for my exams that I barely had time for myself.
I had been reading since last night and only slept off a couple of minutes ago, and here I am again, awake.
"I wanted to be the first to wish you a happy birthday." That brought a smile to my face. My father was always the
