"Come out, come out, wherever you are, Simply Tess. Why is finding you so hard? Aren't you supposed to be simple?"
I jump, heart hammering in my chest as I yank my gaze from the petroleum filter I'm in the middle of replacing.
My heart thunders within my chest, beating in a frantic rhythm as I take a deep breath. I hate it when people skip the front office and sneak into the back of the garage. It freaks me out every damn time.
I grit my teeth and count to twenty.
At least this time, the visitor is someone I recognize—his voice, at least. Not to mention he’s the only person who calls me Simply Tess. I curse myself for not giving him a last name the first time we met, telling him I was “Simply Tess” when I went to his tattoo shop in search of Lyra a few months ago. He’s never forgotten my taunt and makes sure to address me as such each time we see each other.
