Nova’s POV
There’s a strange silence that comes after the tears run dry.
That’s what I woke up to. Not the sound of Levi’s footsteps outside the door, not a knock, not a whisper. Just that silence. A silence that answered every question I still hadn’t dared to ask.
I sat up from the guest room bed—the one I’d locked myself inside of last night after Felicia’s revelation cracked the ground beneath me—and stared at the dim morning light leaking in through the curtains.
Still no knock. Still no Levi.
So maybe it was time for me to do the same. Nothing.
I got up slowly, my body still sore from hours of crying curled into a fetal ball. My head throbbed, my lips dry, my throat raw from the sobs. But my heart—my heart had gone cold.
There was only so much pain one person could take before something inside simply stopped responding.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my eyes bloodshot, hair a mess, the skin under my eyes bruised with exhaustion and pain.
But I still saw me.
