Levi's POV
I hadn't intended to go up to Felicia's room.
I hadn't. I hadn't even thought about it, there in the antiseptic cold of the waiting area, the clock ticking out its slow and infuriating pace.
But the nurse mentioned it as she moved past the station, speaking quietly to some other attendant and the words burrowed into my head like a thorn, poking and insistent.
"Patient 212 is requesting more pain medication, but she's already had her hourly limit."
Room 212. Felicia's room.
My legs seemed to have a mind of their own and led me down the hall as if by a piece of string.
My feet felt like they were made of lead with every step, like the hospital floor was fighting to keep me from seeing what I would. But I could not help it. After so much deception and the games, I simply had to catch her off guard and look at her face.
But the closer I got to Room 212, the louder I could hear clear voices on the other side of the closed door.
