Fire had broken out in the pack.
My parents, worried for their pups rushed into the flames to save us. No. To save them. My brother and sister. My father picked my brother up and my mother grabbed my sister and rushed out, but I was left behind.
Many werewolves arrived to help put out the fire.
“Is there anyone else inside?”
The Elders arrived, asking urgently.
My mum immediately looked over at Dad and hurried over to count all her pups.
“David, Eva; both of them are here. Everyone’s here!” she said with a sigh.
“Are you sure no one else is inside?” the Elder asked mum and dad again.
But Mom’s eyes were fixed only on my brother and sister. Her eyes filled with worry as she checked for injuries.
She didn’t respond to the Elder.
“Good… good, everyone’s here and no one is injured," she said with a sigh, then she wrapped her arms tightly around them. You could see relief on their faces.
As the words left her mouth, I stumbled out of the flames covered in burns and soothe.
Hearing her words, I felt like a fool. To them I was nothing.
Pain tore through my wolf, echoing the pain I felt on my burnt skin. I fell to the ground exposing my burnt back to the night air.
My name is Daisy and I’ve always been an extra.
"Stop it, sis!" My sister's playful escape was followed by a game of tag with my brother, their laughter easing the tension on our parents' faces.
I sat aside, making no sound, watching this happy family that had nothing to do with me.
But the joy did not last long.
My sister tripped and accidentally fell on the wound on my back.
"Ahh!" I shouted out loud.
A searing pain shot through me at this moment. The feeling the fresh bandage rip open and blood seep out.
My sister's eyes widened in fear as she scrambled up and hid behind my brother.
"Daisy, what did I tell you?" Mom's reprimanding gaze shifted to me, her voice filled with anger.
"Why are you yelling at your sister? Can't you just behave?" Her eyes lingered on my face, and for a moment, and I saw disgust flicker across her face and I froze.
It seems she found my scars disgusting.
She was too busy watching my siblings to notice a healer wrapping up my wounds. To her, I was just throwing a tantrum.
My wolf could not longer hold in my pain, I ran away in tears.
My cries echoed through the night but no one came. It did not matter how much I had gone through, as long as I was not my brother or sister, my parents would not care.
When I was finally done, Mom came over, holding my sister’s hand.
She sighed and reached out, trying to take my hand, but I quietly pulled away.
This made her freeze for a bit.
“Daisy, try to understand us. It’s not that we don’t love you. Your brother will soon join the Alpha as a protege and will start hunting very soon and this is taking so much of our attention. Besides, your sister is still so little…”
I looked up at her, but when she saw me choking in sobs, irritation crossed her face.
“Could you just be a little more sensible, please?” she said impatiently.
As I stared at her my inner wolf felt that this situation was ridiculous so I laughed.
How ridiculous. She gave all her love to my brother and sister and left scraps for me.
Mom smiled, thinking I'd forgiven, and clasped my hand over my sister's.
"See, that's better. Apologize to your sister, and let's move on. We're family, after all." Her words were gentle, but her gaze lingered on my sister's face, filled with a pity that made my skin crawl.
I jerked my hand away, and Mom's expression turned ugly. She obviously disapproved..
"I have three pups, but you're the only one who's so spoiled," she said, her words cutting deep.
With that, she swept my sister into her arms and stormed off.
Spoiled; that's what she called my desperate attempts to be loved, to be seen.
I used to be the one who'd beg for attention, who'd do anything to be noticed, because deep down, I knew I wasn't likable.
And if I didn't fight for love, I'd be left with nothing.
But now I ’m dying.
My wolf could tell that I’m sick.
And this little bit of love, they can have it. I won’t fight for it anymore.
