Sebastian's POV
Like an unwanted visitor, silence descended upon the hospital room.
As I gazed at the ceiling, Emma's words again played in my head, each phrase more piercing than the last.
"Let's not drag this out, Sebastian. You must go on. I have already done so." Her tone of chilly finality had struck me more strongly than I had anticipated.
A dull aching stretched through my chest, and I clenched my fists, my nails cutting into my hands. I knew well than to think it was from the procedure. The woman who had just cut whatever tiny thread remained between us was the only reason for this suffering, not my physical condition.
Emma had done this to me.
