Emma's POV
It was a calm drive home.
I leaned my head against the window and observed the city lights flickering by. I felt the vibrations of the world outside as my fingers delicately touched the cool glass. The wind carried the little smell of rain through the window's tiny opening.
"You shouldn't do that," Abigail spoke in a soft yet forceful tone.
Her eyes flickered toward me as I turned my head slightly, then back to the road.
"Do what?" Even though I already understood what she meant, I asked.
She let out a sigh. "Keep the window open in that manner. It's bad for both you and the unborn child."
After a moment of hesitation, I rolled up the window. Once more, there was quiet between us.
I could feel Abigail's eyes hovering over me every few seconds as she continued to drive. She waited for me to say something.
I didn't.
Instead, I allowed my thoughts to stray to Gloria's harsh remarks, to the department store, to the baby clothes I had chosen.
She treated me like tr
