He zones off, thinking for a few minutes before I speak again. “What about Gamma Matt?” I ask. “What about him?” “Could he take the position of Beta? My pack already knows him and understands that you ordered him to protect me. I trust he will look out for my well-being if you are not around.” “I have tried to offer him the job of stand-in Beta numerous times. It is not a title that he wishes to keep.” Onyx states. “I understand. Do you think he would be willing to be at my side for the two weeks when we go to Blood Water?” “I know he would. He would probably even allow us to be temporarily called Beta while we are there. But for no longer than that.” “Can I ask why he doesn’t want the title?” “That is his story to tell, love.” “Do you think he would tell me?” “I am sure he would if you asked. It is not a secret, but once you know, you will understand and not request it of him for longer than needed.” He kisses my forehead and heads off to the bathroom for a show
