Peter emerged from the study and scrutinized Zachary. Zachary clipped his identification to his collar and was about to step in when Peter extended his arm to stop him from doing so.
In an arrogant tone, he questioned, "Why wasn't I informed about this?"
With a composed look, Zachary retrieved a letter of appointment from his backpack.
"You may call the person who appointed me if you have any doubts."
Peter picked up his phone immediately and made an outgoing call. "Mrs. Gibson, there's a man at my door who claims to be a rehabilitation therapist whom you appointed."
Mom answered in a gentle and soft voice, "Yeah. It isn't convenient for us to visit today, so we appointed him to go over. His name is Zachary Jenkins. You may check the letter of appointment."
Peter snatched the letter of appointment from Zachary. After noticing that there weren't any problems with it, he ended the call in a hurry.
Zachary patted his outfit, then indicated to Peter that he wished to enter.
With no longer any reason to stop him, Peter had no choice but to step aside for Zachary to enter.
Zachary took a quick look at Selena, who stuck by Peter's side. She, too, shifted back hastily.
Peter quickly explained, "She's my wife's best friend."
Zachary nodded slightly, then walked slowly over to my side. "Who's caring for Ms. Gibson at the moment?"
Peter took a brief glance at Selena before answering, "We've been looking after her in turns."
Zachary lifted my arm carefully to examine me closely.
Peter looked crestfallen when he saw how close Zachary was to me.
Zachary pulled my sleeves upward, and he furrowed his brows. Tiny red spots could be seen on the inner side of my arm, thanks to Selena's vigorous rubbing earlier.
Peter narrowed his eyes slightly and fixed his gaze on Zachary as he asked, "Dr. Jenkins, aren't you being a little too close to her?"
Zachary turned his head toward Peter, then tugged at his collar slightly. "We are professionals. We won't do anything out of line."
Peter tightened his fists, but he couldn't do anything about Zachary.
Zachary lifted me gently to check on me.
Peter wanted to dash forward to pull us apart, but Selena held him back.
Having already figured out that Peter and Selena were having an affair, Zachary rolled his eyes in silence.
As I leaned into Zachary's warm embrace, I felt my entire body warming up gradually once again. I finally found the strength to utter the words that were stuck at the back of my throat.
Weakly, I whispered into Zachary's ear, "Help… me…"
Zachary turned his head to the side slightly and widened his eyes.
Peter was upset by the sight. He mocked, "Are you stunned because it's been too long since you've last seen a woman?"
I blinked as much as I could to catch Zachary's attention.
He immediately put a pillow up behind me, then brought some water over for me. As the warm water flowed down my throat, I felt my energy coming back to me gradually.
I could feel my limbs again, albeit slowly. Tears of joy flowed down my cheeks.
Peter and Selena stood some distance away, feeling perplexed.
Zachary supported me so that it was easier for me to breathe. After taking a long while to gather myself, I opened my eyes, glanced toward Peter and blurted, "I want a divorce."
Both Peter's and Selena's mouths hung agape.
Peter loosened his grip on his cup, which fell and shattered on the floor.
He walked toward me in disbelief. He asked, "You're… conscious?"
I heaved and replied, "Yes. I want a divorce."
I directed my gaze over to Selena, who retreated like a startled deer.
The pale Selena very well knew what she would lose once I regained consciousness. Once again, I gazed toward Peter, who now had a conflicted expression on his face.
He opened his mouth to speak but ended up remaining silent.
Panic crossed his face once he realized that I had regained complete consciousness.
