Yet another familiar excuse. I nodded calmly. "Yes."
I didn't even try to ask her to stay back. I got out of the car right away, and Sophie drove off without even so much as a goodbye.
I went to City Hall and waited the whole day. I was waiting for her answer. My heart stayed calm and quiet, just like my phone. I didn't get a call. Not even a text, too.
Eventually, City Hall was closing for the day, and Sophie didn't even come back. Nope, no calls or texts either. I stretched my arms.
"See? Told you it'd only be a waste of time," I told myself. "You're a joke, Christopher. Why did you even expect anything out of her?"
It was after eight o'clock at night when I came back, and my phone buzzed, but it wasn't any message from Sophie.
It was Fabian.
"Sorry I held you two up, Christopher. I didn't think she'd stand you up for the whole day just for me. She even delayed taking that license just to comfort me."
He sent me a picture. Sophie rested her head on his abs, and her face glow
