The pack was empty as we got back, like a ghost town— dark and quiet. The wind whistled as if laughing at us as we ran back with our tails tucked in between our legs. I just wanted to get to our room. I just wanted to get to our room because maybe just maybe she had freed herself and was just waiting for us. I had hope, the castle dark but I still had hope.
My heart was bleeding and I did not even want to shift back into my person because I would really feel it then. I hated myself than I ever had before. My head hung low, the warriors behind me with them in silence but they all knew we had failed to get their queen back, that I had failed to get my mate back. I had failed Raven. After everything, I had failed her so greatly and she was probably screaming in pain at that point.
She was probably hoping I was on my way to get her when I was not. She was probably going through hell and the reason she was even taken was because of me, because of us.
