Emily’s POV
With a trembling, almost reluctant hand, I pushed open the door to the clinic, holding it steady as Nicholas carefully maneuvered the unconscious Michael inside. The beta's movements were slow and controlled as he crossed the doorway with the limp body cradled in his arms.
"I don't understand you, Emily," Nicholas said, shaking his head as he gently laid Michael down on the nearest bed. "After what Michael did to you, you are the last person I expected to be helping him."
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, a flush of embarrassment coloring my face as I averted my gaze from Nicholas' piercing stare. "He is still a member of this pack. I couldn't just leave him there," I murmured, my gaze drifting to Michael's battered face.
Nicholas chuckled, a knowing glint in his eye. "Your good heart is why the moon goddess has chosen you as my Alpha’s mate. I just hope he is true to his heart and chooses you as his Luna."
