“It’s too soon,” I replied.
“You’re worried about Gardenia, aren’t you?” She stomped to the fireplace.
“I’m not scared of her.”
“Oh yeah?” she raised a brow in challenge.
“Listen, sweetheart. We’re taking precautions. This little guy’s the heir to my empire, my fortune—”
“You have a fortune?” Summer dipped her head to the side.
“Of course I do. I live in a castle. I run the most successful bar in town and that doesn’t even cut it.”
“It doesn’t?” she asked.
Summer didn’t know about my finances. I realized I kept the state of my pockets away from her. I didn’t mean to. I trusted her. She never made me feel like she was after me for money or status.
“That’s a conversation we need to have later, but I’ve got a bunch of businesses in my tribe packs. I’ve got trusted people running them. I’m not worried about anything.”
It didn’t hurt that I had a dark reputation. It came in handy when people thought about crossing me. It made them think twice.
