Aiden carries me back to my bedroom, laying me down on the bed with exquisite care. His voice is full of grief when he asks, “Why did you run from me? I know you feel our bond every bit as much as I do. When we made love, the world made complete sense to me for the first time. It felt like we were fused together by not only passion, but emotion.” The words should hurt, but I feel anesthetized.
The mind-numbing terror has disappeared and my sight returned to me the moment we entered the castle. I stare into his emerald green eyes for long minutes and see a stranger.
