The sound of Sammy’s voice wouldn’t leave my ears, even as I hurried down the hallway in a haze, I could still hear it, his mocking tone, the smug threat beneath his words.
“He's your little boyfriend from my birthday party. The one you sucked faces with.”
Somehow, he'd pieced it all together. And now he had proof.
Proof he said would ruin us.
My legs moved on their own. Past the lecture halls and back towards where I'd come from. I was supposed to attend my next class. That had been the plan. I had actually looked forward to it.
But now… I couldn’t breathe.
I felt the stares on my back, imagined whispers following me like shadows. Of course no one was talking yet, but Sammy had made it clear that wouldn’t last.
Outside, the brightness of the day only made the sickness in my stomach worse. My hands shook as I unlocked my car. I shut the door behind me and sank into the seat, pressing my forehead to the steering wheel. My heart pounded wildly.
