From across the dancefloor, Jana pauses with a flute of champagne halfway to her lips. Having grown tired after a set of several songs, she and Damian had retired to the sidelines, seeking to mingle and enjoy the refreshments offered at the ball.
She looks to the dancefloor, where she sees Regina be dipped dramatically down by her intended, a shriek of giddy laughter escaping her lips, a joy so potent written on her features that it’s almost painful to watch.
She hasn’t heard such- happiness from either one of them.
Not so unrestrained, and loud.
Damian places a gentle hand on her lower back, grounding her, and Jana’s eyes burn.
“They look happy, she is happy,” Damian murmurs in her ear, and with a sigh, Jana leans back against his chest.
Together, the two of them watch their old time friend with his mate dance in the middle of the crowd, the effervescent joy radiating from his features making them glow brighter
