Vireya's POV
“The magical fairy appeared to you, didn’t she?” I asked, my voice low and trembling.
His eyes widened, and for a moment, he forgot how to blink. “You… how did you know?”
“Because she came to me too. She told me to take three spider lilies. Just like you.”
A sharp silence fell between us.
He opened his mouth, then closed it again, the words tangled in his breath. “I… I just…”
“You wanted to get rid of me?” I asked, my voice breaking apart with each word. “To forget everything we’ve been through? Is that why you were suddenly so warm yesterday? Was it goodbye in disguise?”
Tears streamed freely down my cheeks. “How could you?” I cried. “Why would you make a decision like that without me? Do I really mean so little to you?”
I turned away choking on sobs that tasted of betrayal.
He followed quietly, no excuses or defenses.
When I sank onto the worn edge of the couch, he sat beside me, close enough that I could feel his warmth, but far enough that he didn’t dare touch me.
