The sound of heavy footsteps heading in my direction made my heart skip a beat.
The worst part was that I already knew who it was.
I stared at the wall straight ahead, wondering what he was doing here. Then, it occurred to me that perhaps he’d seen me outside, talking to Derrick. Maybe he was coming to give me a warning and remind me of what would happen if he disobeyed me.
I wished my heart wasn’t beating so loudly in my chest.

Suddenly, the door opened, and I held my breath as I waited for him to speak. At first, it occurred to me to act like I was asleep so I wouldn’t have to deal with him.
