Arthur’s POV
I sat in my office, leaning back in my chair as Garrick stood before me. His stance was rigid, his expression unreadable. The morning light streamed through the window, casting long shadows on the walls.
“Thank you for catching the girl,” I told him.
Garrick nodded, but his face darkened. “I only wish we could have kept her alive,” he muttered. “She was killed right under our noses. It’s a disgrace.”
I waved a hand dismissively. “Forget about it, Garrick. What’s done is done. We need to focus on what comes next.”
Garrick sighed, crossing his arms. “I still don’t understand how it happened. The security was tight, Arthur. No one should have been able to reach her.”
I smirked, inhaling deeply. “It was not you guys fault, the queen people are more cunning than I am,” I paused, moving the strains of hair on my face. “As much as I hate to admit that, I know it's true.”
