I sat in my room, my hands gripping the edges of my chair. My mind raced with thoughts I didn’t want to believe. My mother… working with the Queen’s people? It made no sense, yet the evidence was there, staring me in the face.
How could she? How could my mother, Jennifer, be involved with the very people we were fighting against?
Arthur was furious.
He paced the room, his hands clenched into fists. “We were this close,” he growled, his voice tight with frustration. “This is close to catching them, and once again, they slipped away.”
