Ava’s POV

Three days had passed, but the pain in my chest hadn’t lessened. Arthur was gone, and his body had never been found. Without it, there was no real proof of his death, and part of me still clung to the hope that he might return. But deep down, I knew the truth. The kingdom had lost its leader, and I had lost my husband.

I sat at the long wooden table in the grand hall, my son cradled in my arms. His tiny breaths were the only thing keeping me grounded.

The room was filled with murmurs as the elders whispered to one another. Their faces etched with disappointment and worries.

I inhaled deeply, looking for the best way to call their attention. I tapped my fingers on the table, nervously as I darted my eyes from one elder to another. None of them were paying attention to me.
