Arthur’s POV
I stood frozen, Ava’s trembling voice echoing in my ears. The report dangled from her hands, her wide, tear-streaked eyes cutting straight through me.
I swallowed hard, my mind drawing a blank, I have been avoiding her after I found out that I killed her parents. Now she knew about her parents' past.
I turned to Charles, my piercing glare made him flinch, he avoided my eyes. This was all his fault.
I had already asked Charles to get rid of it, if he hadn't been delaying it, this wouldn't have happened.
“How could you?” she whispered, her tone a mix of betrayal and despair. “All this time… you knew.”
I wanted to at least defend myself but the words lodged in my throat.
How could I tell her the truth, knowing it would shatter her completely? How could I admit that her parents’ deaths were my fault?
