The sun hung low in the afternoon sky, casting golden light across the garden where I sat, waiting for tea.
The gentle clinking of porcelain and the faint scent of jasmine filled the air, but none of it calmed the unease settling deep in my bones.
Elizabeth sat beside me, her presence as imposing as ever. She hadn’t said much since we arrived, just sitting down there, sipping her cup of tea so loudly that I wanted to punch her in her throat.
