Roman

Over the last week of training, Ayla has alternated between excitement and frustration. She’s a quick learner, but my father was right. She wants to learn more quickly than she is and that causes her to be frustrated.

Each night, she falls into bed exhausted. Between the four hours a day of sparring training for Samara and another four to six hours of training for Ayla, my mate is exhausted. One night, after I’d gone over some pack business after sparring all day, I went up to our room and found her asleep in the tub. I’d finished bathing her then sat in the tub with her, letting the Epsom salts relieve my aching body as well. Each day, Ayla is getting stronger and it’s forcing Pierce and I to work harder to keep from getting pinned and to pin her.

My father has been great. It has been so many years since I’ve seen him have a purpose. He is once again acting like the man that he was when Alpha Royal and Luna Jessica were alive. I realize that it’s all because of Samara. I’m not s

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 43: Executing the Plan

SamaraOver the next two weeks, Ayla and I push hard to get stronger and smarter in our fighting strategy. The pack is stronger since my Luna ceremony. All of us can feel it and the energy in the air as we prepare for war is so thick you can almost taste it on your tongue. While Roman says that my blood strengthened the pack, I feel stronger since my Luna ceremony as well. Accepting him freely, drinking his blood as I said the words to accept him as my mate and Alpha has made me stronger. Feeling my mate’s increased strength and energy buzzing through our bond is also making me feel stronger. It’s like our energy feeds off the other’s but only intensifies rather than burning out.At night, I can’t get enough of my mate. After spending most of the day sparring in one form or another, you’d think that I’d be exhausted, but I’m not. After dinner, we spend time talking war strategy with Alpha Sterling, Beta Austin, and Gamma Adrian. Then Ayla and Pierce run together, strengthening their b

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 42: Luna Ceremony

RomanI wore my mate out yesterday on the sparring field. To her credit, she has stopped whining and is working extra hard to get stronger faster. Ayla is also pushing herself and I know it won’t be long before we’re ready to go to war.Thankfully, being mated seems to have given my mate extra stamina because when we went to bed last night, sleep was the last thing on her mind. Being the good mate that I am, I made my mate come until she truly was exhausted, then I curled up around her and fell into the same deep sleep that she did.Today, we’re having her private Luna ceremony. When everything is settled with Sawyer and Dylan, I intend to invite every pack in the country to watch my mate take her place at my side and as the Luna of this pack. But for now, having her accept me of her own free will, having her accept her place in the pack, is enough. My mother, goddess bless her, went and got my mate a dress appropriate for today. It’s white symbolizing who she is, a white wolf. Her bro

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 41: Understanding

SamaraI didn’t realize how much it would hurt and also feel good to hear Althea’s voice again. It’s been nine years since I heard the voice of anyone in my family. There was no way to stop the tears that started to fall and I wasn’t even going to try.Roman held my gaze the entire time. As if his eyes were my anchor, I didn’t look away. I should have realized that Roman wouldn’t lie to me or exaggerate Sawyer’s love for Althea. What I heard through the phone was love on both sides. It’s going to break her when she finds out the truth. I hate that I have to be the one to do that to her, but hopefully, someday, she’ll realize that I did it because I love her. She deserves to know the truth.“What do you think of this plan, Samara?” Roman asks me. I love that he’s asking me. He knows I’m not a warrior, not the strong fighter that he is, not yet. But he’s still asking me my opinion because this is important to me and that matters to him.“I think that if we can end this, end Sawyer withou

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 40: Phone Call

RomanSawyer has his own ringtone, so I knew the moment my phone started ringing that it was him. I didn’t mean to startle Samara, but when you start snarling mid-kiss, there’s really no other response you can expect.I keep my eyes on Samara, needing her to ground me. She’s here. She's alive. She’s safe. He never found her either.“Sawyer,” I growl into the phone. Samara’s eyes are wide and she gently reaches out to touch me, reminding me that he doesn’t know that I know about his betrayal.“Damn! Is that any way to greet a friend? I’m guessing that means that things between you and your mate haven’t gotten any better. I haven’t heard from you in so long I was beginning to wonder if she killed you in your sleep.”I take a deep breath, pulling Samara closer to me, using her scent to calm me.“Things are getting better, slowly,” I tell him.“So, it’s your blue balls that have you so pissy,” he smirks. Under normal circumstances, I would tease back, but not now. Not when I know what he d

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 39: Being a Leader

SamaraThe next morning, Roman drags us both out of bed. While neither of us got much sleep, I feel energized and happy. When we walk downstairs for warrior training, the pack cheers and howls in excitement.“Let’s see it,” Luna Devi says, walking up with a huge smile on her face. Since I’m wearing a tank top for warrior training, I move my hair aside to show her.“Beautiful, just like you,” she says, pulling me into a hug.“And yours?” she says to Roman when she releases me. He isn’t wearing a shirt, so he leans forward giving his mother a closer look at his mark.“Perfect,” she says.I pull my hair into a ponytail and watch as the pack members look at my mark and grin. The feeling in the pack is happy and excited.Roman doesn’t push me as hard in training today, recognizing that I’m a bit sore after all of our activities yesterday and last night. Instead, he works on my form and how to stop giving my opponent ‘tells’ into the moves I’m about to make.At breakfast, Alpha Sterling begi

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 38: Afterglow

RomanBliss. Absolute and utter bliss. That’s what it feels like to be mated to Samara. I know the mate bond is powerful for all fated mates, but there’s something about the pure line of the white wolf that makes a difference, not just with the pack, but in the mate bond. It isn’t just that she’s the other half of my soul. It feels as if her soul attached to mine. I could no more live without her than I could live without my heart or my lungs. She’s that much a part of me now. It gives me an entirely new understanding of how Alpha Royal fell so easily after Luna Jessica was killed. Without Samara, I couldn’t survive, not even for a moment. And I wouldn’t want to.Knowing that doesn’t make me feel more vulnerable, it makes me feel powerful. Her power is now my power, just as mine is hers. Her love wraps around me like a blanket, enveloping me and caressing me as if it’s a living thing. I feel it humming in my veins, energizing me in ways I’ve never felt before. She is everything. She is
