Soon, Madison finished eating both sandwiches.
I watched her lick her fingers clean, making sure she got every last crumb.
What else could I do for this child?
To be honest, my feelings toward her were starting to shift.
A few weeks ago, when Madison falsely accused my twins at the wedding, I didn't have a single good thought about this little girl. I'd seen her as a manipulative brat who'd been weaponized by her toxic mother.
But watching her devour those sandwiches with such desperate hunger now.
She looked up at me with those big blue eyes.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"You're welcome." I replied.
The woman who'd been supervising Madison approached us.
"Time to go, Madison," she said curtly.
"Can I... can I say goodbye to Alexander and Ethan?" she asked.
I looked around and spotted my boys playing with some rocks they'd collected.
"Of course," I said. "Boys! Madison wants to say goodbye."
