Derrick’s POV.
It didn’t feel like two years had passed since Kara’s disappearance from my life.
Every day I woke up, thinking that she would finally leave my memory, that I’d be able to come to terms with her death and finally let her go, but she didn’t. Every waking moment, I’d find myself thinking that she was just down the hall in the kitchen, up before sunrise, and making breakfast made especially to suit my dietary needs.
I purchased a new house after the villa burned down because I couldn’t bear to live at the family home again under my grandmother’s watchful and disappointed eyes. It looked nothing like the villa, in fact, it was an upscale penthouse apartment, on the top of a luxury apartment building one of my subsidiary companies owned, and it couldn’t be farther away from the villa, all slick lines and modern architecture, so different from the homeliness and the old-world charm of the villa.
But still, I expected to see Kara waiting for me every time I came home.
