The drive back was quieter. The children leaned against each other in the backseat, full of stories and sugar, their energy mellowed by the sun and adventure.
But Dean was smart enough to know he had done something wrong and so he apologized, “I’m sorry Aunt Clarissa”
“For what exactly|” she asked as she dove.
“For running off and bumping into a stranger, but I promise you I did not speak to him like mum had instructed that I shouldn’t speak to strangers” He said pitifully.
“Please forgive him mummy” Sofia cooed from where she sat.
“Not only should you not speak to strangers, you could have hurt yourself” Clarissa said with worry written all over her voice.
“I am sorry” Dean said, holding his ears in a playful manner.
His cuteness got to Clarissa and she acknowledged she had forgiven him.
Dean yawned. “Can we do this again tomorrow?”
“Maybe,” Clarissa said. “If your mum doesn’t have a mountain of business meetings.”
“I’ll convince her,” Dean mumbled sleepily.
Sofia smiled.
