Chapter 444

Author: Flower Sock
"Mom, your argument was impressive," Gregory said flatly. His voice was completely devoid of emotion. "The performance's over. You can go now."

"Gregory!"

Eleanor's face flushed red with anger. She hadn't expected Gregory would just brush her words off like it was some kind of show when she'd said so much. And on top of that, he had no intention of letting Natalie go.

"Even if the evidence isn't solid, you're dead set on not letting Nat go, huh?"

"So what if I am?"

Those five words—firm and absolute—completely crushed everything Eleanor had said in Natalie's defense.

Eleanor staggered, and Holden caught her just in time.

"You brat! How dare you talk back to your mother like that!" Holden swung his fist, ready to teach Gregory a lesson.

But before he could get within three feet of Gregory, a bodyguard swooped in and pinned his hands behind his back without mercy. Holden yelped in pain.

"Let me go!" he shouted. "I'm his father! It's my right to discipline my son!"

"What are you doing?" Anathea instinctively tried to pull her hand back."You burned yourself. Didn't you notice?" Gregory frowned.Only then did she see the red mark blooming on her wrist. The pain hit her all at once."Thea, are you okay?" Chloe grabbed her hand, her voice full of worry. "It's my fault…"If she hadn't tried to take the bowl, it wouldn't have spilled, and Anathea wouldn't have gotten hurt."I'm fine, Chloe. Don't worry," Anathea soothed her gently. Only when she saw Chloe hadn't been burned did she let out a breath of relief. "As long as you're okay.""Thea, you should tend to your hand.""Okay."As soon as Anathea said that, Gregory pulled her toward the restroom while tossing a quick order over his shoulder for Martin to look after Chloe. His strides were long, and Anathea almost stumbled trying to keep up. When she looked up and saw his darkened expression, she paused. "Are you angry?"Gregory didn't answer. But the tight set of his jaw gave her all the c

Thomas poured Anathea a glass of white wine. "Seafood goes better with this. It brings out the flavor."Anathea took the glass and was just about to take a sip when a tall figure suddenly stepped into view."Why are you here?" She frowned.Castenea was huge, and yet, for some reason, she'd been running into Gregory far too often lately."I'm here for dinner," Gregory replied casually. "Pretty normal thing to do, don't you think, Ms. Jacobson? Unless, of course, you're implying I'm following you."His tone was cool and distant, carrying a hint of detachment. It was nothing like the man who'd once whispered that he missed her at the tennis club. Then again, this kind of cold detachment was probably for the best. It saved them both from awkwardness."You're overthinking it," Anathea said, glancing away. "If you're here to eat, pick another table. You're blocking my view."But Gregory didn't budge. He stayed right where he was—directly across from her."Mrs. Sinclair… Uh, I mean,

A familiar scent drifted faintly through the air, wrapping around Hannah just like what had happened in the past. She looked up, dazed. The moment her eyes landed on the same face from eight years ago, the tears she'd been holding back broke free."Do…." She opened her mouth to speak, but her voice came out hoarse and broken. When Dominic saw her tear-streaked face, he pressed his lips into a tight line. He reached out and gently wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumb. Then he pulled her into his arms and gently comforted her. "It's over. You're safe."Hannah just sat there, stunned. It felt like her soul had been knocked out of her body.Seeing that, Anathea stepped forward and gently took Chloe from Hannah's arms. She brushed a hand over the little girl's cheek and said to Hannah, "Don't worry. She's alright."At that moment, the tension Hannah had been holding onto finally snapped, like a thread pulled too tight for too long. She collapsed against Dominic's chest and

Blood seeped from Hannah's palm where her nails had dug in, but that pain was nothing compared to the fury and helplessness ripping through her chest."I'm going to kill you," she growled through clenched teeth. With no one holding her back anymore, she lunged at Leon like a woman possessed."Go ahead and try. Let's see who's faster—you rushing over or me shoving this pill down the kid's throat!" Leon burst into arrogant laughter.Hannah felt like her legs were set in concrete, frozen in place. She could only stand there helplessly, watching as Leon held Chloe hostage. His smug, twisted smile stung her eyes. The bitterness rising in her chest crept all the way to her throat, making her body sway.Leon was thrilled with her reaction. He pried open Chloe's mouth, ready to shove the pill down her throat.Just then, Anathea—who'd silently slipped out of his line of sight—reached into the bag and yanked out a stack of tightly bound cash. While Leon was too focused on Hannah, she lau

Hannah froze mid-step. Her body stiffened like her feet had been nailed to the ground. Slowly, she turned around.Leon let out a smug laugh. The second he saw the change in her expression, he knew that he'd gambled right. That little girl was Hannah's greatest weakness.Leon stepped forward, yanked off the lid of a water barrel beside him, and pulled out a small sleeping figure—Chloe.Hannah's pupils contracted at once. "Chloe!"Even Anathea looked shocked. She hadn't expected Leon to go so far as to abduct Chloe just to threaten Hannah.Hannah shouted Chloe's name again and again, but the latter didn't stir. Her eyes stayed shut."What did you do to my daughter?" Hannah's voice shook with panic."She was making too much noise, so I gave her a little sleeping pill," Leon said with a twisted grin while pinching Chloe's cheek. "Quiet now, isn't she?""You sick bastard!" Hannah's fury erupted as she lunged forward. But Leon was already holding a knife to Chloe's neck. "Take one

Hannah said coldly, "Grandpa, Grandma, if you want to die, go ahead and jump. In the best-case scenario, you'll smash your legs and arms and spend the rest of your miserable lives rotting in a hospital bed."I'd love to see how long your son sticks around once you've got no money left to bleed. Let's see if he takes care of you or if he bleeds you dry until you can't even afford a damn coffin."Sebastian and Isla flinched and exchanged a glance. The scenario Hannah described sent a chill straight down their spines.Because deep down, they knew what kind of person Leon was. If things really spiraled like Hannah said, they would be better off dead. But the truth was, they didn't want to die.So the next second, they yanked the ropes off themselves and shouted at Leon, "That's enough! That brat doesn't give a damn about us. Even if we die right in front of her, she's not going to budge.""Dad, what—" Leon's face twisted with disbelief."We're too old for this crap. Whatever grudge
