The next day, I woke to the sound of an angry voice filling the room. My heart sank as I struggled awake. With my sleepy eyes, I see him pacing the room, muttering under his breath. He was all dressed up and by the look of his expression, he wasn’t in a calm state.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he growled, slamming something against the wall.
I sat up, panicked.
“What’s wrong?” I questioned but he said no words to me. Walking towards him, just as I was about to touch him, he turned to me, his eyes blazing with fury. “You used me,” he spat.
“What?”
He pointed to my neck, where the faint scare of the mating mark of I and Sabastiam still showed. “You have a mate. You’re married, and you didn’t think to mention that before dragging me into this?”
What?
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done? I don’t get involved with mated wolves.”
“I’ll pay you,” I blurted out, “Whatever you want… mention any amount.”
I grabbed my purse and brought out my black card, stretching my hands towards him.
“Here. Take this.” I said.
“You think this is about money?”
“Stop being dramatic. Have this card. Just forget about everything. This card will go a long way.”
“Here.” I added.
Coldly, he stepped closer, glaring directly at my eyes as shivers ran down my spine. He took another step forward and I took another backwards, his eyes still locked in mine. It happened twice. Reaching an inch from me, his cold husky voice broke the silence.
“This isn’t about money.”
With that, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

Chapter: Chapter 100Tessa POVThe next day, I walk outside to clear my head. The garden is quiet, the air cool, the early morning sun barely rising. I’m tired from everything, Selene’s threat, the fear settling deep in my bones, the way Jaxon has vanished from my life like smoke. My wolf is restless, pacing inside me.I take a slow breath and stop near the roses.“Maybe today will be peaceful,” I whisper. But the moment I turn, a strong hand clamps over my nose and mouth. A sharp, sweet smell invades my lungs. I struggle, nails digging into skin, kicking back, but the grip only tightens. My vision blurs. My body weakens. The last thing I hear is a deep male voice saying, “Don’t let her fall.”Darkness swallows me.When I open my eyes again, I’m lying on a cold concrete floor. My head throbs. My stomach twists in pain. I blink until two shapes sharpen into two men standing over me, tall, rugged, dressed in black. Their faces are familiar but not enough to name.I push myself up.“W-Who are you?” My voice

Chapter: Chapter 99Tessa POVWe talk for another hour, her words planting seeds of doubt—and hope. By the time I hang up, the sun has set, stars twinkling outside the window. I can’t stay here, wallowing. I need answers. Grabbing my keys, I head downstairs. Lila’s in the living room, dusting. “Luna? Going out?”“Just for a drive,” I say, not meeting her eyes. “To clear my head.”The night air is cool as I slide into my car, the engine purring to life. I don’t have a destination, but my instincts pull me toward the old pack borders, where Alaric’s territory begins. Lititi urges me on, excited. Maybe it’s reckless, but sitting idle isn’t an option anymore. The drive takes me through winding forest roads, moonlight filtering through the trees. Memories flood back—stolen moments with Alaric, before everything went wrong. His laugh, deep and genuine. The way he’d hold me, like I was precious. Jaxon had been passionate, but Alaric… he was home to me. I pull over at a lookout point, the city lights twinkling

Chapter: Chapter 98Tessa POVThe words hit me like a slap from an invisible hand. Vacation? Jaxon and Amanda on vacation? While I’m here, fresh out of the hospital, my body still weak from the fainting earlier, my mind reeling from the fear and hurt that cuts my heart strings at the news. Lila’s eyes dart away from mine, her hands twisting in her apron as if she wishes she could take back what she just said. The kitchen smells of baking bread, warm, comforting but it does nothing to ease the chill settling in my bones.“What do you mean, vacation?” I ask, my voice sharper than I intend. Lititi stirs inside me, her wolf senses picking up on the unease radiating from the maid. “When did they leave? Where?”Lila swallows hard, glancing toward the hallway as if afraid someone might overhear. “This morning, Luna. Right after the Alpha got the call from the hospital saying you’d be okay. He… he said it was a last-minute thing. For Amanda’s health, you know? The stress of the pack and all. They’re at the beac

Chapter: Chapter 97Tessa POVWhen I open my eyes again, the world is sterile white—hospital lights buzzing overhead, the smell of antiseptic filled in my nose. I’m in a bed, sheets tucked tight around me, an IV drip in my arm. Alone. My head throbs, and I blink against the brightness, trying to piece together what happened. The door swings open, and a nurse bustles in, her scrubs rustling. She’s middle-aged, with kind eyes and a clipboard in hand. “Thank the moon goddess, you’ve regained consciousness,” she says, smiling as she checks the monitor beside me. “How are you feeling, dear?”I swallow, my throat dry. “What… how long was I out?”“About twelve hours,” she replies, adjusting the IV. “You gave us a scare. Fainted right at home. Your pulse was high. I’m glad you look okay now.”Jaxon. “Where is he?” I ask, glancing around the empty room. No flowers, no chair pulled up beside me. Just beeps and silence. The nurse hesitates, her smile fading a bit. “He left after he brought you in with a lady—a preg

Chapter: Chapter 96Tessa’s POVThe day had just begun when I got a notification on my phone from a strange number. The soft chime cuts through the quiet of my room, pulling me out of the fog I’ve been in all morning. I glance at the screen, my fingers hesitating for a second before I swipe it open. It’s a message with no text, just a photo attachment. I tap it, and the image loads slowly. And what I saw only made my day worse. There they are, Selene and Alaric. She’s leaning into him, her face lit up with a smile that looks too real, too happy. He’s got his arm around her waist, his expression as unreadable as ever, but there’s something in the way he holds her. Protective. Possessive. My stomach twists, and inside me, Lititi growls low and fierce, the jealousy ripping through us both like claws.Did she send me this photo or Alaric did? Or some stranger. I can’t stop staring. The photo’s blurry around the edges, probably taken from a distance, but it’s clear enough to hurt. Alaric’s gray eyes stare

Chapter: Chapter 95Selene’s POV He carries me across the room with that same unhurried calm. His body is all heat and steadiness pressed against mine. I can feel the strength coiled under his control, the power that makes everyone else in the pack lower their eyes when he passes.“Put me down,” I whisper, half laughing, half trembling. He looks down at me, face unreadable. “You never listen.”“I do. Sometimes.”He sets me on the edge of the bed. The mattress dips under his weight when he sits beside me. For a moment, neither of us speaks. The air feels heavy, charged with all the words we never said.Outside, I hear the distant howl of a wolf, someone on border patrol. The sound fades into the night, leaving only the quiet sounds of crickets and our breathing.I reach out and trace the line of his jaw with my fingertips. “When you left, I thought I’d lost you forever.”“You didn’t,” he says simply.“I almost did,” I murmur. “You were so far gone, Alaric. I could see it in your eyes every day. It was li

Chapter: Chapter 175CHRISTINE The morning sun spilled across my office window, warming the wooden floor in soft streaks of gold. For the first time in a long while, I finally visited my office which looked abandoned already. It's been three weeks since Stephanie's trial and life was back to normal and Moonfall was thriving again. Outside my window, merchants were reopening their stalls. Children laughed as they chased one another through the streets. Wolves walked without weapons at their sides. The city was healing and so was I.I slowly ran my fingers across the familiar shelves. The books, reports, maps and everything else had been cleaned after the war, yet it still felt exactly the same.A quiet knock interrupted my thoughts and Nathan stepped inside carrying another pile of documents. He looked around the room before smiling. "So...""So." I said imitating him and he laughed."I never thought I'd see this place open again.""Neither did I."He placed the papers on my desk. "Everything is ready.

Chapter: Chapter 174CHRISTINE For the first time in what felt like forever, Moonfall city was quiet. It's been one week since the war happened. No war horns echoed across the city, no smoke darkened the sky and no frightened voices filled the streets. The city was finally peaceful. Kael and I rode through the streets toward Moonfall's highest court. The buildings we passed still carried scars from the war. Some walls had been rebuilt while others were covered in fresh timber where repairs had begun. Workers climbed ladders, shopkeepers reopened their doors and children chased one another through the streets again.Life was returning slowly.Today wasn't a celebration, it was an ending. As we climbed the long stone steps leading to the courthouse, my stomach tightened.Without thinking, I slipped my hand into Kael's and his fingers immediately closed around mine.He looked at me, his eyes were softer than I had ever seen them."Are you ready?" he asked quietly and I gave a small laugh that held no am

Chapter: Chapter 173CHRISTINE The first sound I heard wasn't the clash of steel, it was my own loud and terrified heartbeat. The two Moonfall guards stayed close on either side of me, guiding me away from the battlefield just as Kael had ordered.Behind us, the war is still going on.Swords crashed against each other, wolves howled and more blood soaked the ground. Every sound made me want to turn around and every sound made me think of only one person—Kael.I clenched my shaking hands. No! I couldn't just stay back, what if there is a chance to protect him. Nathan is still out there too. How can I stay back here while the most important men in my lives risked their own lives out there? I have to be there with them, I have to help out! "I'm sorry," I whispered and before either guard understood what I meant, I spun around and ran."My Lady!""Wait!"Their voices chased after me but I didn't stop running with every ounce of strength in me. My feet pounded against the broken ground as I ran through s

Chapter: Chapter 172STEPHANIE “Move Christine out of here immediately!!!” Kael ordered and his men took her away while she resisted and screamed his name. I didn't know how to feel at that moment but I wasn't supposed to care anymore. I looked away that instant. The battlefield had become a living nightmare.Smoke covered the sky and fire swallowed buildings I had known since I stepped my foot into Moonfall. The smell of blood and burning wood filled every breath warriors shouted over the sound of clashing swords. People were still dying because of my father and me.I looked at Kael, his sword was still stained with blood. His eyes never left mine. I know he still didn't trust me and I don't blame him if he doesn't.I didn't care about the consequences of my actions and already made up my mind to fight against my father even though it would cost me a lot but I had to put an end to all of these. If not because of anything but atleast, I wanted to make my late mother feel proud of me and redeem my s

Chapter: Chapter 171KAELThe war horns had barely faded when the palace came alive.Footsteps thundered through the halls and orders kept flying about. I was already out of the room I was with Christine. I fastened my sword to my waist and pulled on my armor while servants hurried around me with the last pieces of equipment. Outside my window, smoke was already rising above parts of Moonfall. The war had begun.I stepped outside the preparation room and found Christine waiting for me.She hadn't changed out of the simple clothes she wore that morning. Her eyes found mine immediately and neither of us spoke because there wasn't time.I walked toward her and rested my forehead against hers for one brief moment."I'll come back," I said quietly."You'd better," she answered with a small smile that didn't quite hide the fear in her eyes.I reached for her hand and squeezed it once and then I looked at Nathan who was standing beside her. "Protect her."He nodded once. "I will with my life." He said and I

Chapter: Chapter 170CHRISTINE The palace became quiet as the day drew close to its end. Outside my window, fires burned across the training grounds and warriors sat around them. Some sharpened their swords while others quietly spoke to the people beside them. A few laughed, but the sound never lasted long because everyone knew what tomorrow might bring.Sleep refused to come so I slipped out of bed as carefully as I could and wrapped a light cloak around my shoulders before stepping onto the balcony.Kael was busy handling a few things so I couldn't go to him. Cool night air greeted me immediately.I rested my hands on the stone railing and closed my eyes for a moment, letting the breeze brush across my face. The balcony door opened behind me and I didn't have to turn around before I knew who it was as his scent slowly filled my nose. Kael hugged me from behind and for a while, neither of us spoke. We simply stayed in that position watching the city we both loved.I could feel his breath on me and i
