The Beta’s Unwilling Bride

The Beta’s Unwilling Bride

The next day, I woke to the sound of an angry voice filling the room. My heart sank as I struggled awake. With my sleepy eyes, I see him pacing the room, muttering under his breath. He was all dressed up and by the look of his expression, he wasn’t in a calm state. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he growled, slamming something against the wall. I sat up, panicked. “What’s wrong?” I questioned but he said no words to me. Walking towards him, just as I was about to touch him, he turned to me, his eyes blazing with fury. “You used me,” he spat. “What?” He pointed to my neck, where the faint scare of the mating mark of I and Sabastiam still showed. “You have a mate. You’re married, and you didn’t think to mention that before dragging me into this?” What? “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? I don’t get involved with mated wolves.” “I’ll pay you,” I blurted out, “Whatever you want… mention any amount.” I grabbed my purse and brought out my black card, stretching my hands towards him. “Here. Take this.” I said. “You think this is about money?” “Stop being dramatic. Have this card. Just forget about everything. This card will go a long way.” “Here.” I added. Coldly, he stepped closer, glaring directly at my eyes as shivers ran down my spine. He took another step forward and I took another backwards, his eyes still locked in mine. It happened twice. Reaching an inch from me, his cold husky voice broke the silence. “This isn’t about money.” With that, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

Chapter: Chapter 100
Tessa POVThe next day, I walk outside to clear my head. The garden is quiet, the air cool, the early morning sun barely rising. I’m tired from everything, Selene’s threat, the fear settling deep in my bones, the way Jaxon has vanished from my life like smoke. My wolf is restless, pacing inside me.I take a slow breath and stop near the roses.“Maybe today will be peaceful,” I whisper. But the moment I turn, a strong hand clamps over my nose and mouth. A sharp, sweet smell invades my lungs. I struggle, nails digging into skin, kicking back, but the grip only tightens. My vision blurs. My body weakens. The last thing I hear is a deep male voice saying, “Don’t let her fall.”Darkness swallows me.When I open my eyes again, I’m lying on a cold concrete floor. My head throbs. My stomach twists in pain. I blink until two shapes sharpen into two men standing over me, tall, rugged, dressed in black. Their faces are familiar but not enough to name.I push myself up.“W-Who are you?” My voice

Chapter: Chapter 99
Tessa POVWe talk for another hour, her words planting seeds of doubt—and hope. By the time I hang up, the sun has set, stars twinkling outside the window. I can’t stay here, wallowing. I need answers. Grabbing my keys, I head downstairs. Lila’s in the living room, dusting. “Luna? Going out?”“Just for a drive,” I say, not meeting her eyes. “To clear my head.”The night air is cool as I slide into my car, the engine purring to life. I don’t have a destination, but my instincts pull me toward the old pack borders, where Alaric’s territory begins. Lititi urges me on, excited. Maybe it’s reckless, but sitting idle isn’t an option anymore. The drive takes me through winding forest roads, moonlight filtering through the trees. Memories flood back—stolen moments with Alaric, before everything went wrong. His laugh, deep and genuine. The way he’d hold me, like I was precious. Jaxon had been passionate, but Alaric… he was home to me. I pull over at a lookout point, the city lights twinkling

Chapter: Chapter 98
Tessa POVThe words hit me like a slap from an invisible hand. Vacation? Jaxon and Amanda on vacation? While I’m here, fresh out of the hospital, my body still weak from the fainting earlier, my mind reeling from the fear and hurt that cuts my heart strings at the news. Lila’s eyes dart away from mine, her hands twisting in her apron as if she wishes she could take back what she just said. The kitchen smells of baking bread, warm, comforting but it does nothing to ease the chill settling in my bones.“What do you mean, vacation?” I ask, my voice sharper than I intend. Lititi stirs inside me, her wolf senses picking up on the unease radiating from the maid. “When did they leave? Where?”Lila swallows hard, glancing toward the hallway as if afraid someone might overhear. “This morning, Luna. Right after the Alpha got the call from the hospital saying you’d be okay. He… he said it was a last-minute thing. For Amanda’s health, you know? The stress of the pack and all. They’re at the beac

Chapter: Chapter 97
Tessa POVWhen I open my eyes again, the world is sterile white—hospital lights buzzing overhead, the smell of antiseptic filled in my nose. I’m in a bed, sheets tucked tight around me, an IV drip in my arm. Alone. My head throbs, and I blink against the brightness, trying to piece together what happened. The door swings open, and a nurse bustles in, her scrubs rustling. She’s middle-aged, with kind eyes and a clipboard in hand. “Thank the moon goddess, you’ve regained consciousness,” she says, smiling as she checks the monitor beside me. “How are you feeling, dear?”I swallow, my throat dry. “What… how long was I out?”“About twelve hours,” she replies, adjusting the IV. “You gave us a scare. Fainted right at home. Your pulse was high. I’m glad you look okay now.”Jaxon. “Where is he?” I ask, glancing around the empty room. No flowers, no chair pulled up beside me. Just beeps and silence. The nurse hesitates, her smile fading a bit. “He left after he brought you in with a lady—a preg

Chapter: Chapter 96
Tessa’s POVThe day had just begun when I got a notification on my phone from a strange number. The soft chime cuts through the quiet of my room, pulling me out of the fog I’ve been in all morning. I glance at the screen, my fingers hesitating for a second before I swipe it open. It’s a message with no text, just a photo attachment. I tap it, and the image loads slowly. And what I saw only made my day worse. There they are, Selene and Alaric. She’s leaning into him, her face lit up with a smile that looks too real, too happy. He’s got his arm around her waist, his expression as unreadable as ever, but there’s something in the way he holds her. Protective. Possessive. My stomach twists, and inside me, Lititi growls low and fierce, the jealousy ripping through us both like claws.Did she send me this photo or Alaric did? Or some stranger. I can’t stop staring. The photo’s blurry around the edges, probably taken from a distance, but it’s clear enough to hurt. Alaric’s gray eyes stare

Selene’s POV He carries me across the room with that same unhurried calm. His body is all heat and steadiness pressed against mine. I can feel the strength coiled under his control, the power that makes everyone else in the pack lower their eyes when he passes.“Put me down,” I whisper, half laughing, half trembling. He looks down at me, face unreadable. “You never listen.”“I do. Sometimes.”He sets me on the edge of the bed. The mattress dips under his weight when he sits beside me. For a moment, neither of us speaks. The air feels heavy, charged with all the words we never said.Outside, I hear the distant howl of a wolf, someone on border patrol. The sound fades into the night, leaving only the quiet sounds of crickets and our breathing.I reach out and trace the line of his jaw with my fingertips. “When you left, I thought I’d lost you forever.”“You didn’t,” he says simply.“I almost did,” I murmur. “You were so far gone, Alaric. I could see it in your eyes every day. It was li

Chapter: Chapter 24
CHRISTINESleep didn’t come easily that night and every time I closed my eyes, I saw the same thing again. The document Kael had pushed across the desk, the search notice, my name printed clearly beneath the description and the quiet certainty in his voice when he said Moonfall was a difficult city for someone without allies.I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling of my room. Nathan was asleep in his own room already and I could hear his faint snore earlier, but sometime during the night even that sound had disappeared beneath the restless noise in my head.I suddenly felt a dull sensation in my chest. It was faint and almost like a memory.I knew it was the mate bond again.Weeks ago, that connection had felt like a living thread tying my heart to Harlan’s. Now it was distant and thin but it was still there which meant one thing.Somewhere out there, Harlan was still looking frantically for me, the search notice flying around the city is enough to prove that.I shut my eyes

Chapter: Chapter 23
KAELI had expected many reactions from Christine Hale—shock, anger or even quiet satisfaction but hesitation had not been one of them. Most wolves in her position would have accepted my offer without thinking. A woman publicly abandoned by her mate during a ceremony meant to bind two packs together—that kind of humiliation usually burns deep enough to turn into something far more dangerous.I had assumed she would want revenge but instead, she looked at me like the idea of destroying Harlan Stone meant nothing to her. That alone made her interesting. My fingers tapped lightly against the armrest of the chair as I replayed the moment in my mind. Most wolves would have seen my offer as an opportunity but Christine saw it as something else entirely. My wolf shifted slightly beneath my skin, restless not in warning but in curiosity. She had walked out of my office without fear, without desperation, and most importantly, without begging. That was rare, especially for someone who had only

Chapter: Chapter 22
CHRISTINEFor a few seconds after Kael finished speaking, I simply stared at him.His words hung in the air between us— ‘we bring Alpha Harlan Stone to his knees.’My fingers slowly tightened around the edge of the document, the idea sounded simple when he said it like that but the man he was talking about wasn’t just another Alpha. He was the man I had loved the man I had planned to spend the rest of my life with and the man who had shattered that future in front of an entire pack.I placed the paper back on the desk.“You’re asking me to turn my past into a weapon,” I said quietly and Kael didn’t look offended but amused.“I’m asking you to use your experience,” he corrected.“That experience involves a man I once trusted.”“And that same man publicly abandoned you.” His tone remained calm and his words still landed hard.I met with his gaze,“That doesn’t mean I want to destroy him.” I said and Kael leaned back slightly in his chair.“Interesting,” He remarked. His golden eyes stud

Chapter: Chapter 21
CHRISTINEThe moment my eyes landed on the first line, my fingers tightened around the paper. It wasn’t a contract or an approval letter, It wasn’t anything I expected. It looked like an intelligence notice, it was a search notice. The bold heading at the top made my stomach twist.Subject: Christine HaleMy pulse skipped once as I began to read the content of the paper. Below it were several lines of information—my name, my former pack, a brief description.Beneath the paper was a statement requesting information regarding my whereabouts.I slowly lowered the page and for a moment the room was completely silent.I lifted my eyes to Kael unsure of what to say.“You’re being searched for,” he said calmly, his voice carrying no surprise or judgment, just a simple statement of fact.I placed the paper back on the desk carefully.“I can see that.”Kael leaned back slightly in his chair, golden eyes studying me with quiet interest. The expression on his face was unreadable. It wasn't pity

Chapter: Chapter 20
CHRISTINE Nathan was still staring at the envelope like it might explode, I took it from his hand.“Relax,” I said and Nathan looked at me like I’d just said something ridiculous.“Relax?” he repeated. “That’s the Alpha’s crest,”I broke the seal. The paper inside was thick and expensive, the kind people used when they wanted their words taken seriously. I unfolded it and read the short message and my expression didn’t change.“Well, what does it say?” Nathan asked and instead of answering, I handed the letter to him.His eyes moved across the page once, “That’s it?” he said finally. The letter was short,Christine Hale,I’ve reached a decision regarding your request. Come to my office tomorrow morning. — Kael.Nathan lowered the paper slowly.“That was fast.”I walked past him into the living room and set my bag on the table.“Yes,” I said.Nathan followed me, still holding the letter like it might suddenly reveal hidden lines. “You only met him yesterday.”“I know.”“And he’s alr

Chapter: Chapter 19
CHRISTINEA faint chill went down my spine and Nathan followed my gaze through the reflection in the glass doors.“You saw that too, right?” he murmured.“Yes.”Across the street, the three Moonblade warriors stood exactly where Nathan had pointed them out. Their arms were folded behind their backs, feet planted firmly on the pavement and their eyes were fixed on the building or more specifically on me.Nathan slowly released my arm. “So what does that mean?”I pushed the glass door open and stepped inside.“It means they want us to know they’re there.”Nathan followed quickly, “That’s not comforting.”The lobby buzzed with activitires—assistants moving quickly between elevators, merchants speaking in low voices and the quiet hum of business that never seemed to stop in this city.I couldn't stop thinking of the reason why those warriors were keeping eyes on me. Kael obviously sent them but for what reason? Does he see me as a threat since he and Harlan are rivals?Nathan glanced back
