The next day, I woke to the sound of an angry voice filling the room. My heart sank as I struggled awake. With my sleepy eyes, I see him pacing the room, muttering under his breath. He was all dressed up and by the look of his expression, he wasn’t in a calm state.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he growled, slamming something against the wall.
I sat up, panicked.
“What’s wrong?” I questioned but he said no words to me. Walking towards him, just as I was about to touch him, he turned to me, his eyes blazing with fury. “You used me,” he spat.
“What?”
He pointed to my neck, where the faint scare of the mating mark of I and Sabastiam still showed. “You have a mate. You’re married, and you didn’t think to mention that before dragging me into this?”
What?
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done? I don’t get involved with mated wolves.”
“I’ll pay you,” I blurted out, “Whatever you want… mention any amount.”
I grabbed my purse and brought out my black card, stretching my hands towards him.
“Here. Take this.” I said.
“You think this is about money?”
“Stop being dramatic. Have this card. Just forget about everything. This card will go a long way.”
“Here.” I added.
Coldly, he stepped closer, glaring directly at my eyes as shivers ran down my spine. He took another step forward and I took another backwards, his eyes still locked in mine. It happened twice. Reaching an inch from me, his cold husky voice broke the silence.
“This isn’t about money.”
With that, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

Chapter: Chapter 100Tessa POVThe next day, I walk outside to clear my head. The garden is quiet, the air cool, the early morning sun barely rising. I’m tired from everything, Selene’s threat, the fear settling deep in my bones, the way Jaxon has vanished from my life like smoke. My wolf is restless, pacing inside me.I take a slow breath and stop near the roses.“Maybe today will be peaceful,” I whisper. But the moment I turn, a strong hand clamps over my nose and mouth. A sharp, sweet smell invades my lungs. I struggle, nails digging into skin, kicking back, but the grip only tightens. My vision blurs. My body weakens. The last thing I hear is a deep male voice saying, “Don’t let her fall.”Darkness swallows me.When I open my eyes again, I’m lying on a cold concrete floor. My head throbs. My stomach twists in pain. I blink until two shapes sharpen into two men standing over me, tall, rugged, dressed in black. Their faces are familiar but not enough to name.I push myself up.“W-Who are you?” My voice

Chapter: Chapter 99Tessa POVWe talk for another hour, her words planting seeds of doubt—and hope. By the time I hang up, the sun has set, stars twinkling outside the window. I can’t stay here, wallowing. I need answers. Grabbing my keys, I head downstairs. Lila’s in the living room, dusting. “Luna? Going out?”“Just for a drive,” I say, not meeting her eyes. “To clear my head.”The night air is cool as I slide into my car, the engine purring to life. I don’t have a destination, but my instincts pull me toward the old pack borders, where Alaric’s territory begins. Lititi urges me on, excited. Maybe it’s reckless, but sitting idle isn’t an option anymore. The drive takes me through winding forest roads, moonlight filtering through the trees. Memories flood back—stolen moments with Alaric, before everything went wrong. His laugh, deep and genuine. The way he’d hold me, like I was precious. Jaxon had been passionate, but Alaric… he was home to me. I pull over at a lookout point, the city lights twinkling

Chapter: Chapter 98Tessa POVThe words hit me like a slap from an invisible hand. Vacation? Jaxon and Amanda on vacation? While I’m here, fresh out of the hospital, my body still weak from the fainting earlier, my mind reeling from the fear and hurt that cuts my heart strings at the news. Lila’s eyes dart away from mine, her hands twisting in her apron as if she wishes she could take back what she just said. The kitchen smells of baking bread, warm, comforting but it does nothing to ease the chill settling in my bones.“What do you mean, vacation?” I ask, my voice sharper than I intend. Lititi stirs inside me, her wolf senses picking up on the unease radiating from the maid. “When did they leave? Where?”Lila swallows hard, glancing toward the hallway as if afraid someone might overhear. “This morning, Luna. Right after the Alpha got the call from the hospital saying you’d be okay. He… he said it was a last-minute thing. For Amanda’s health, you know? The stress of the pack and all. They’re at the beac

Chapter: Chapter 97Tessa POVWhen I open my eyes again, the world is sterile white—hospital lights buzzing overhead, the smell of antiseptic filled in my nose. I’m in a bed, sheets tucked tight around me, an IV drip in my arm. Alone. My head throbs, and I blink against the brightness, trying to piece together what happened. The door swings open, and a nurse bustles in, her scrubs rustling. She’s middle-aged, with kind eyes and a clipboard in hand. “Thank the moon goddess, you’ve regained consciousness,” she says, smiling as she checks the monitor beside me. “How are you feeling, dear?”I swallow, my throat dry. “What… how long was I out?”“About twelve hours,” she replies, adjusting the IV. “You gave us a scare. Fainted right at home. Your pulse was high. I’m glad you look okay now.”Jaxon. “Where is he?” I ask, glancing around the empty room. No flowers, no chair pulled up beside me. Just beeps and silence. The nurse hesitates, her smile fading a bit. “He left after he brought you in with a lady—a preg

Chapter: Chapter 96Tessa’s POVThe day had just begun when I got a notification on my phone from a strange number. The soft chime cuts through the quiet of my room, pulling me out of the fog I’ve been in all morning. I glance at the screen, my fingers hesitating for a second before I swipe it open. It’s a message with no text, just a photo attachment. I tap it, and the image loads slowly. And what I saw only made my day worse. There they are, Selene and Alaric. She’s leaning into him, her face lit up with a smile that looks too real, too happy. He’s got his arm around her waist, his expression as unreadable as ever, but there’s something in the way he holds her. Protective. Possessive. My stomach twists, and inside me, Lititi growls low and fierce, the jealousy ripping through us both like claws.Did she send me this photo or Alaric did? Or some stranger. I can’t stop staring. The photo’s blurry around the edges, probably taken from a distance, but it’s clear enough to hurt. Alaric’s gray eyes stare

Chapter: Chapter 95Selene’s POV He carries me across the room with that same unhurried calm. His body is all heat and steadiness pressed against mine. I can feel the strength coiled under his control, the power that makes everyone else in the pack lower their eyes when he passes.“Put me down,” I whisper, half laughing, half trembling. He looks down at me, face unreadable. “You never listen.”“I do. Sometimes.”He sets me on the edge of the bed. The mattress dips under his weight when he sits beside me. For a moment, neither of us speaks. The air feels heavy, charged with all the words we never said.Outside, I hear the distant howl of a wolf, someone on border patrol. The sound fades into the night, leaving only the quiet sounds of crickets and our breathing.I reach out and trace the line of his jaw with my fingertips. “When you left, I thought I’d lost you forever.”“You didn’t,” he says simply.“I almost did,” I murmur. “You were so far gone, Alaric. I could see it in your eyes every day. It was li

Chapter: Chapter 126CHRISTINE Nathan looked horrified while I pretended to be calm. The healer's words seemed to linger inside the small wooden house long after she finished speaking. She also added that the process of severing the bond was going to take three days. So for three days, I was going to pass through a series of pain, fight the bond, fight my own wolf and the three days could even end with my death. The silence stretched, it was heavy, uncomfortable and oppressive. Then Nathan suddenly stood."We should leave."The words came out suddenly and I blinked.Nathan ran a hand through his hair and started pacing."No, why should we?” He shook his head. “You can't do this, there has to be another way out.""Nathan—""It's one out of a hundred chances of survival, hope you know what that means?” “I know Nathan but I could be part of the one percent,” “No, let's not do this Christine.” His voice cracked and I just stared at him. For a moment, I forgot about the healer, the bond and about everyt

Chapter: Chapter 125CHRISTINEThe journey began before sunrise. Today was the day Nathan scheduled us to go see the healer that was going to help sever my mate bond with Harlan. Her home was The sky was still dark when Nathan came to knock on my door. “I'm going to meet you downstairs.” I yelled from my room. “Hope you're okay?” He asked and gave him a positive hum as a reply. A few seconds later, I heard receding footsteps. I was already awake and dressed up already. Truthfully, I hadn't slept much at all.Every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing and thinking the same things.I kept thinking about the mate bond, Harlan, the healer and Nathan telling me it's one out of a hundred chances of survival. The number refused to leave me alone. It simply meant that there were ninety-nine failures, ninety-nine wolves who hadn't survived and ninety-nine people who had made the same choice I was about to make.I grabbed my coat and headed downstairs.Nathan was leaning against his vehicle when I stepped ou

Chapter: Chapter 124KAELEric narrated everything that happened the night before Marianne’s death and the story emerged piece by piece.Marianne hadn't planned the attacks, hadn't organized or ordered them. She had simply been useful since she was someone expendable and easy to blame. She was literally a scapegoat. I knew from the morning that her death news aired that she was just used. The city believed she was guilty because somebody wanted them to.He also added that the confession was fake, fabricated and manufactured.Every word, detail and accusation was a lie.Darius cursed quietly beneath his breath. I remained silent while Eric continued. After the operation failed and after too many questions emerged, Marianne became a liability so they eliminated her. They made it appear like guilt, shame and suicide. The city accepted it and everyone moved on except me because I continued the investigation on the low. Everyone moved on except me and the room felt suffocatingly quiet because somewhere along

Chapter: Chapter 123KAEL POVThe call came at 1:17 in the morning and I was still awake. The investigation files were spread across my desk, untouched for the last twenty minutes. Reports from the intelligence division sat beside trade documents and security briefings, yet none of them held my attention.A sharp knock sounded and the door opened before I answered.Darius stepped inside and one look at his face told me something had happened."We got a trace."Every distraction vanished instantly and I sat straighter."How?"Darius closed the door behind him. "The anonymous caller made a mistake."This is very surprising because this particular anonymous survivor had been careful even though I knew he couldn't run and hide from me for too long, especially in a city I controlled. He has been careful with every communication route, device, message and location. He'd covered his tracks better than most trained operatives and yet somehow, it still got uncovered. "He left one route active six seconds longer

Chapter: Chapter 122CHRISTINE POVBy the time I arrived at the office the next morning, I had a new mindset and how to handle things from now henceforth. I won't make more mistakes, expect too much or continue to be comfortable with Harlan. The elevator doors opened and I stepped out with a folder tucked beneath my arm, repeating the rules in my head like they were a prayer. No lunches, no coffee, no personal conversations, no unnecessary contact, no looking for Kael and no caring. The last one irritated me immediately because if I truly didn't care, I wouldn't need a rule for it.I shoved the thought away before it could settle and headed straight toward my office to begin work for the day. Work was safe, made sense and it didn't make my chest tighten whenever a certain Alpha walked into a room.It also made me think less about the personal problems I had to deal with. The entire morning disappeared beneath reports, strategy reviews, trade projections, and client consultations.I buried myself in ev

Chapter: Chapter 121KAEL POVThe clock on the wall ticked quietly while I stared at the report in front of me, then realized I hadn't read a single word.My eyes were moving across the page but my mind wasn't.I leaned back in my chair and rubbed a hand across my jaw.The office was silent except for the occasional rustle of paper and the distant sounds of security patrols moving through the residence.Reports, investigated files and every other work enough to keep an Alpha occupied for days covered my desk.Normally I would have already finished half of it but I couldn't just focus tonight? My gaze drifted toward the window and then back to the documents.I looked away again and annoyance settled in my chest.I knew exactly what the problem was or rather who it was. It was Christine. The memory surfaced immediately. I could remember the way she had looked at me before leaving. She was so cold, distant, guarded and almost hostile. It didn't make sense because I know her. Christine argued constantly, qu
