Marked by Gold and Ruin

“The Goddess made a mistake making us soulmates.” Those were the words that shattered Elara's world. For twenty five years, Elara lived as an outsider in the Ironridge Pack. Though bonded with Alpha Darius Ironridge, she remained the unwanted Luna, unloved, humiliated and lonely. Still, she loved Darius hopelessly, even when he never truly loved her back. On the fifth anniversary of their bond, her worst nightmare comes true. Accused of treason, branded a whore, and rejected before the entire pack, Elara is exiled and left to die. She is suddenly saved by Ronan Trueblood, the quiet and mysterious Alpha of a struggling pack. Unlike Darius, Ronan offers her kindness, safety, and a chance to begin again. But Elara soon discovers that escaping her past will not be so easy. Not when her bond with Darius never truly broke. Not when she is carrying the child of the very man who destroyed her. As dangerous secrets begin to surface, Elara learns that she may not be unwanted the orphan everyone believed her to be, and the truth about her family could change the fate of every pack in the kingdom. Because long-buried bloodlines always have a way of demanding to be acknowledged. And kingdoms have always gone to war for a crown.

Chapter: Chapter 96: A Quiet Vote
(ELARA’S POV) I got to the meeting chamber early, mostly because I hadn’t slept. Luke had woken twice in the night, once for water and once from a dream he couldn’t remember. Both times I sat on the edge of his bed longer than I needed to, watching the pale line along his hairline in the lamplight. By morning I had found him a soft grey cap. He thought it was hilarious and said it made him look like an old man. I told him it was a game, and he put it on and marched around with his wooden sword until his tutor came around. It wasn’t a plan. It was only something to do with my hands. The Luna Council chamber was quiet when I walked in. The long table had been polished, the windows were open a crack, and the water jugs had been filled. I took my seat at the head and arranged my papers into neat stacks I didn’t really need. Maeve and Maren arrived together a few minutes later, arguing in low voices about whether the grain shipments from the northern packs were counted tw

Chapter: Chapter 95: The Hunt Resumes
(SOREN’S POV) It had been five years since the altar first spoke the name Starvale, and in all that time it had given us nothing new. Varek still ran the ritual every season. Three warriors, three cuts, the same faint silver in the grooves before it died out again. He always came out of the chamber looking older and sorrier than the time before. I stopped going down to watch around the second year. There was no point in watching an old man fail at the same thing. So when a ritualist knocked on my door before dawn to say the altar had lit itself, I nearly told her to go away. I didn’t, because I could feel it too. The pull I had learned to ignore was sitting hard under my ribs, and my wolf was already on his feet. I dressed and went down. ⸻ Varek was waiting beside the altar with his hands tucked into his sleeves. The chamber was cold, and the candles had burned low. “Alpha.” “What happened?” “Nothing was done,” he said quickly. “No blood was spilled. I want you to

Chapter: Chapter 94: The Weak Link
(FARINA’S POV) Darius had left before sunrise. A housekeeper told me over breakfast, in the careful voice of someone who expects to be blamed for news she didn’t make. “The Alpha rode out at first light, Luna. Two guards went with him.” “Did he say where?” “No, Luna.” I set my cup down. “Did he take anything with him?” “He was with a folder.” That was all she knew, and from her face she knew it wasn’t enough. I let her go. Darius told me everything he did—border inspections, council letters. I had always relied on that. He was not a man who slipped out before dawn without a word, and he was certainly not a man who carried a folder out of his study unless there was something in it he didn’t want left lying around. He had spent every evening this week behind that study door and I had assumed it was just patrol reports. I turned it over while I finished my tea. Ronan held the Council now, so any business of weight would lead to Trueblood. And Trueblood meant Elara. I did not

Chapter: Chapter 93: Truce
(RONAN’S POV) I found Darius in the guest hall, standing at the window with a folder in one hand and his back to the door, like a man waiting for a verdict. He turned when he heard me. I took my time closing the door. “You’ve been waiting a while,” I said. “I know.” I crossed to the table and poured myself a cup of water I didn’t want, mostly to give my hands something to do. Elara had been shaking when I held her hand in that corridor. She would never admit it, and I had been stupid enough to let her go off alone afterwards. All I could do now was keep my temper where it belonged. “You spoke with Elara,” I said. “Briefly.” “I know. I want to say something about that, and I’ll say it once.” I set the cup down. “Whatever is between the two of you, whatever you believe about what happened, you don’t bring it into my pack. Not in the garden, not in a corridor, not anywhere. If she wants to speak to you, she will. If she doesn’t, you leave her alone.” His expression didn

Chapter: Chapter 92: Words Left Unsaid
(ELARA’S POV) I got around the hedge before my hands started shaking. I held the papers tighter against my chest and kept walking, as if looking busy might fool someone. Mostly me. “Mother, over here!” Luke was crouched by the far flower bed with his wooden sword lying in the dirt beside him and something cupped in both hands. He looked up at me, grinning, and for a second I couldn’t make myself smile back. I knelt in front of him. My knees weren’t as steady as I’d hoped. “Look what I found by the wall.” He opened his fingers. It was a small stone, smooth and round, so pale it was nearly white. “It looks like the moon,” he said. “It does, a bit.” “Can I keep it?” “Of course you can.” He closed his hand around it again, very pleased with himself, and then squinted at me. “Why is your face like that?” “Like what?” “Like Father when he’s cross but doesn’t want to say.” That got a laugh out of me, though it came out thin. “I walked too fast, that’s all.” He didn’t look con

Chapter: Chapter 91: Five years of Silence
(DARIUS’ POV) I had been asking the wrong question. Whether Ronan would think I doubted him mattered less than how he learned of the Blackfangs. From me, with the reports in his hands and the facts laid out plainly, or from a burial party after another patrol failed to come home. I knew which of those I could live with. A letter was out of the question. It could be misread, or sit unopened on a desk for a day, or pass through three different hands before it reached him. And if the Blackfangs were truly moving, a day was more than I was willing to give them. Ronan held the Council now. Whatever I thought of him, this was his to know first. I closed the folder, gathered the reports, and called for my horse. The ride to Trueblood gave me too much time to think. I rehearsed what I would say, then discarded it. Every version sounded either like a warning or an order, and I was in no position to give Ronan either. In the end, I settled on the facts. Three patrols missing, two pac
