Chapter: CHAPTER 47
Brooklyn.“We're going out soon, get ready!” Lan bursts into the room, telling me without glancing at me and walking back outside.Confused, I drop my phone on the bed, then get out of what I deem comfortable enough to decompose into, and trail after my man. I smile softly. My man. Feels good to say. “Where are we going?” I call out, wondering where he has gone. He's just here now, this man walks faster than a Cheetah. I take a big sniff before going down the stairs and into his private study. “Where are we going?” Without knocking, I barge in.Landon, who's on a call, lifts his hand up to silence me. I send him a glare before making myself comfortable on one of his sofas. It's Saturday today and Landon and I decide to stay in.At least, that was the plan we agreed on yesterday. I'll decompose under the soft, cozy duvet with my books in our room, and he'll work on whatever work he has in his study. Sounds like a wonderful plan to me! And it's just 12 in the noon! For three minutes,

Chapter: CHAPTER 46
Brooklyn.“Are you sure?” Billie asks for the umpteenth time, her blue eyes frozen with worry and doubt. And I honestly don't blame her. She has probably tried everything she can, yet they all turn out the same. And over and over, when she asks, I assure her that it is. “Probably not,” I shrug, trudging down the hallways that lead to the room where the operation will be taking place. She halts, her large and frantic now. “Gosh, Billie. I wasn't being serious.”“Brooklyn!” She whines, hand ready to go into her hair until I catch it. Squeezing her hands, I stare into her eyes. “Trust me, okay?” She nods, biting her lips as she takes a deep and long breath. I squeeze her hand again before releasing it.Just then, Fiona steps outside of the room. “All ready. Are you ready?” She asks Billie, smiling broadly. Her wide and happy smile is doing the opposite. I'm sure what her scientist mind thinks of right now is breaking yet another record. Blueblood makes people pregnant. I can imagine th

Chapter: CHAPTER 45
Brooklyn.“How do you manage to find me so easily?” Convoluted, I ask the smug, leering male before me.“So you can ditch me again?” He teases, the smug look still present.I fold my hand across my chest, “exactly.” I deadpan. Turning around, I cross the grand asphalt to the lobby. “I mean, by ditching you should be able to tell that I don't want you with me.”Alan, once again, rushes past me to push the lobby glass door as I can pass through. I give him a look. “You take your work a little too seriously.”“What can I say?” He shrugs, “our relationship excites me. Besides, the King will have my head if I don't do my job.” “He won't have your head for overdoing it?” I step inside the cool ground. People litters around and I can sight a few doctors with lab coats on. This place really is like an actual hospital, sometimes, I convince them for humans.“I guess there's only one way to find out.” I glare at his words as I make my way to the reception desk. “Queen Brooklyn, you're the Quee

Brooklyn.“I said no, you fucking plastic—” she lift up her head from under the table. “—oh! I'm sorry, I didn't know you were the one.” Getting up, she rounds the table and pulls me into a hug. “I've not really seen you since that night. I should also apologize for that.”“Billie, breathe,” I chuckle.“Right.” She takes a deep breath in and out. Smile widely at me before pulling me into another hug. “Gah, it's so nice to see you, B. How've you been doing?”Grinning, I sit on her couch. “Like someone didn't try to drink me dry.”“You can't blame me, it tastes so sweet. Can I get a sip?” She reaches for my hand.“No.” I pull away, roaring in loud laughter. Billie joins, her eyes crinkling by the side. She sits beside me, leaning into the soft material that cloaks the wooden sofa. “But really, I am sorry about that.”“Given the opportunity, I'd do it again.” I say seriously before adding quickly with a slight chortle, “knowing someone is there to pull your head off.”“Please, no!” She

Brooklyn.“So..”“Soo..”My lips tilt up. “Sooo..”His gaze remains on me, a smile of his own making his lips. “Soooo..”“Sooooo..” he opens his mouth and my eyes narrow towards it, “if you say so again, I'm going to slap the back of your head.” He chuckles.“Want to tell me why you came in today?” I ask, the tip of my index finger tracing over the books on the shelf as I near his table. “Want to tell me why you sent your guards away?” He asks, eyes trailing me and doing something unfamiliar to me. Pausing, I grin. “Not particularly.”“Not particularly, either.” “Now, that's unfair,” I pout. His head tilts to the side, hands folded on his chest and the paper before him is long forgotten. “Life isn't, little wolf.” Until he picks back the pen and a stack of papers.“Does that mean we have to be unfair?” “No.” Comes his clip answer.Saddened that his attention is no longer on me, I tug out one of the chairs before him and move it to his side. He watches me in confusion, “what are y

Brooklyn. She never came back.Everyday in the next three days, I snuck past my guards and went to the garden hoping that she'll be there. Or I waited. I painted. I drew. I waited. But she never came back. Landon begins to suspect since I am ditching my guards all the time and now, I stop going there. But I still want to see her. She knows something about me that I don't know. She knows who my father is. And even though she gives a weird vibe, I am not scared of her. Her presence is calming. I want to see her again. I hope she tries to look for me too.“Brooklyn!” Mike elbows me in my ribs and winces, glaring at him. I see the laughter in his eyes but he wisely presses his lips together. “Sorry, you weren't answering. We are here.” He says, nudging to the gate before us.It's then I notice that the car is no longer moving. “Right,” I mutter in embarrassment as Alan and the driver watch me. Twice Upon A Star

Twice Upon A Star

Chapter: CHAPTER 105
ABIGEALI HAD to admit, leaving the country wasn't such a bad idea. It had been an impulsive decision, sure, but as I sipped a cocktail on a balcony while gazing at the stars, I couldn't bring myself to regret it.I couldn't remember the last time I hadn't been weighted down by one obligation or another. Whether it was finding justice for my brother, or trying to assassinate Blaine without him catching a clue.No. We're not thinking about him. Not today, not ever. The one thing I regretted though, was letting Anna have her way when she insisted on helping me pack because I didn't have the energy to argue. She'd taken out all my usual everyday clothes and put in their place flirty sundresses and cocktail gowns and bikinis that left little to the imagination, with a little note that said ‘Now you're ready for the other kind of smashing’ with a little winky face.I shook my head as I recalled. Not that the new wardrobe had done me much good. Every man that had approached me so far either

Chapter: CHAPTER 104
BLAINEEACH DAY, I wondered why I bothered coming into this office when all I did was drink and stare into space. I had a pounding headache and a hazy memory of the night before. Where had I gone?I remembered heading into a bar. I remembered talking to a blonde who looked vaguely like the girl I was trying to forget. It got hazy from there.Did I take her home? She wasn't there when I woke up and the disapproving glances from my aunts weren't more intense than usual, so no. I chugged Advil down with whiskey and almost laughed at the irony.I leaned back in my chair trying to piece my night together but I'd barely started when a voice interrupted me. “It’s a bit early for happy hour.”I tensed and tightened my grip on the glass. “It's happy hour somewhere,” I said casually.Footsteps walked further into the room. “I hear you've been terrorizing our employees in my absence," Jordan said.“If terrorizing means making sure they do their jobs and do it well, then yes, I've been terrorizin

ABIGEALTHERE WAS a knock on my bedroom door, but I didn't move an inch from where I was and just hoped the noise would go away. But it didn't. Instead, the handle turned and the door opened. I still gave no reaction, as from the voices I knew it was Anna and Melanie standing in the doorway. Melanie took one look at my ramrod straight figure sitting in a chair close to the window and turned to Anna. “How long has she been like this?”“I don't know. Sometimes she'd be up and about and talking, then she'd be back here. I'm not sure what to do,” Anna whispered.“You realize I can hear every word, right?” I said without looking back.“You were meant to.” Melanie walked further into my room and stopped beside me. “What do you think you're doing?” She snapped.I looked up at her and smiled vaguely. “Hi. When did you get back? You look great.” She and Jordan had taken a vacation to a country I didn't remember, since things were still tense with Blaine. As soon as his name came up in my th

BLAINE“WHAT IS wrong with you? What's wrong with all of you?” I snapped, flinging the pieces of paper that my employee just handed me in the air so they scattered and fluttered around. “All the fucking numbers are wrong. I do not pay you huge amounts of money to be met with such incompetence?”“But sir, we worked with the data you got from your office.” One of the workers squeaked, trying to hide behind the files she was holding. “I'm sorry sir, she's new to this department.” The one who was still trying to pick up the papers said. “We'll fix it, sir.”“Better do, if not you and Goldilocks over there are fired. In fact, all of you.” The whole department looked at me in shock before averting their eyes. None of them wanted to be the focus of my attention.I swiveled around and stalked away, my admin Chris walking behind me. “Did you get the analysis done for the Wexler acquisition?” I asked.“No sir, I-”“Damn it, Chris. When did everyone become so lazy? What kind of business are we

ABIGEALTHIS PART was one of the hardest. Kat and Melanie had done most of the cleanup while Anna rested against a wall. I walked up to them and surveyed the space.“Is this everyone?” I asked.“Everyone who resisted. Under those cloaks, some of them were children, some barely old enough to drink. And one of them came at me with a knife.” Kat rubbed her eyes like doing so would erase the image.I looked at the bodies scattered around the floor. “Did you…?”“Of course not. Jesus, do I look like a monster?” Kat looked offended.I held up my hands, then let out a sigh. The plan was to wipe everyone out, but I couldn't do that with a clear conscience. The girl I'd seen was about Juan's age.Perhaps if they became problems a few years later, I could deal with them then. “Got the gasoline?” I asked.Melanie held up the two kegs. I took one and helped her spread it around while Kat supported Anna's weight and helped her outside. When we'd exhausted the kegs, we went out the back exit throug

Chapter: CHAPTER 100
ABIGEALI WAS stripped of my weapons and pushed into the main hall. The red cloaked people formed a circle with me, Anna, Morgan and his father in the middle. I refused to call him my father, as he'd never been one to me.I knelt beside Anna and took out a strip of clothing, using it to bind her leg. “How did this go so wrong?” I whispered. Her face was pale from the blood loss. “They were on me so fast, I didn't see them coming?” She groaned as I tightened the bind. “The others are safe though.”“Then we might still have a chance," I said lowly. A gunshot made me flinch.“Any more whispering and I'll put the poor girl out of her misery," Soliz said. I glanced back to glare at him. “Stop threatening her. I already gave you what you wanted. I surrendered.”I squeezed her arm lightly and rose. “What exactly do you want from me?” I asked him.“I want you to join us.”I shook my head. “Not happening. Next.”“You are a Soliz, whether you like it or not. I am not leaving my organization in

Scented Lies

Scented Lies

‘Do you really think you own me?’ ‘Yes, yes I do.’ Running away isn’t an option now. I brought this upon myself by signing that document. She agreed to the marriage to make the only family she has happy. He agreed because it made business sense. However, buried beneath the polished smiles and diamond ring lies a secret soaked in betrayal. Alana Voss thinks she’s marrying to save her family’s legacy. Rafael D’Angelo thinks the lady he is marrying is just a pawn. Neither of them know that they’re walking into a trap set decades ago by one woman playing them both - Lucia Voss. It all started with a scent and a broken promise.

Rafael’s POV It hasn't even been twenty-four hours since the signing, and I’m already regretting agreeing to the damn press exposure.I hate these things. Charity galas, ribbon cuttings, fake smiles plastered on painted faces. All of them whispering about money and motives while pretending it’s all about the ‘greater good.’Tonight, it’s a black-tie benefit for some luxury housing project. Boring. Predictable. And now made worse by the fact that I have to show up hand-in-hand with a woman who looked like she’d rather jump off a bridge than marry me.Alana is quiet in the car, looking out the window like the city offends her. The silence between us feels heavy, stretched thin like a thread about to snap. I should say something. Maybe even try to make this easier. But I don’t. I just sit back and watch her profile under the dim lights. She’s wearing a silver satin dress tonight. It has a cowl neckline and high slit cut perfectly to her body. Her hair is swept up again, leaving her nec

Alana’s POVIf anyone had told me I’d be signing a marriage contract in my grandmother’s rosewood-panelled study with three people watching me like hawks, I’d have laughed in their faces.“Three years.” Lucia says “No scandals, No public fallout. You’ll act like a real couple.”“Act.” I say under my breath.Rafael sits beside me, legs crossed the calm like this is just another business deal. His jacket is off and his shirt sleeves are rolled back, one arm casually resting on the armrest as if he doesn’t have a care in the world. I can feel his eyes on me, studying my every breath. There are five clauses.Clause one: We live together.Clause two: We attend all public events together.Clause three: No romantic involvements outside the marriage.Clause four: Divorce at the end of three years, no strings attached.Clause five: Whoever breaches the contract is going to provide the sum of five hundred million and may be sued to court.I sign my name with trembling hands when I notice a sent

Alana’s POVI should keep walking. One foot in front of the other.Yet the second my eyes meet his, I hesitate. Just long enough to make it obvious and attract a disapproving eye from my grandmother.I definitely didn’t expect to see that. Lucia did mention that there were two guests coming, but he is not what I expected.I thought I’d meet some arrogant heir with way too much gel in his hair and an even bigger ego. However, this man standing in Lucia’s dining area dressed in a sleek black suit and wearing a look of calculated boredom is not what I expected. At all.Tall. A chiseled jaw. Dark hair that falls just enough over his brow to look effortless. And those eyes; deep, cool and unreadable. He doesn’t smile. Doesn’t smirk.Just watches me like I’m some kind of puzzle he didn’t expect to find in this house. I force myself to move again, my hands tightening across the railing as I reach the last step.Lucia’s voice echoes. “There you are, meet Renald and his nephew, Rafael.”We ex

Chapter: CHAPTER 2
Rafael’s POVI could hear my uncle's voice long before he neared my study. He was ranting about something, a usual occurrence especially since Mom traveled and left him in charge.“Do you know how much we’ve lost in the last quarter alone?” My uncle barks, barging in like he owns the place. He doesn’t even wait for a response. “Fifteen percent down. Fifteen!”I don’t flinch. I just stare at him expressionless while sipping my scotch.“The investors are complaining. Stocks are dipping. Sales are down across our Asian market and our PR team just keep doing sh-”“The next time you barge in my study,” I interrupt him. “I’ll start charging you rent.”He growls under his breath. “This isn’t the time to joke Rafael.”“Well then you should have thought of that before barging in here and screaming my walls down.” He throws a folder on the wooden desk in front of me. The contents slide out- charts, press clippings, numbers dipped in red ink.“This is what happens when people think the D’Angel

Chapter: CHAPTER 1
Alana’s POV ‘Your scent still lingers, cruel and sweet, like promises you never kept.’I turn the worn-out note over, half expecting some dramatic signature that might explain the sender or the receiver. But it's blank on the other side. No signature. Nothing.I probably shouldn’t even be reading it, but how can I not?Initially, I went to the attic to look for an old journal of mine and then I got distracted with many other things here. I was in the mood for nostalgia.I found some of my things that I had totally forgotten about: my mom’s charm bracelet, my baby shoes and then a velvet box. A deep burgundy velvet box with a golden clasp. It looked like a mini treasure chest.Inside, were the letters. Not one. Dozens. Maybe more. All written on quality cream paper, now faded at the edges. Some lines were smudged like someone had cried when writing or reading them.I’ve read five so far, and I still couldn’t understand it. They were all written in a poetic way with perfume references.
