On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair

On Thin Ice: A Forbidden Step Siblings Affair

I barely have time to react when my back collides with the cold wall of my room. Gray’s hands slams against the wall on either side of my head, caging me in. his chest rises and falls. “You’re a coward,” he breathes his voice raspy. I swallow hard. “And you’re an asshole.” He smirks, but there’s no humor in it. “Maybe, but at least I don’t run from what I want.” I try to shove him away but with one hand he catches my wrists, pinning against the wall above my head. My breath hitches. His grip isn't painful, just firm and possessive. “You keep looking at me like that,” he murmurs as his lips brush against my jaw causing me to tilt my head, “but then you pretend you don’t want this.” “I don’t,” I whisper and even I don’t believe myself. Gray’s lips twitch, as if he’s amused. Then before I can stop him, his lips crash against mine. I gasp and that’s all it takes for him to deepen the kiss, his free hand sliding to my waist, pulling me against him. heat pulls in my stomach and moves between my legs. I should push him. I should slap him, make him stop… But I don’t. Because the moment his tongue brushes against mine, I’m gone. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… He is my tormentor, my stepbrother, my worst nightmare. Yet somehow in the dark, when the world isn't watching, he becomes something else, something forbidden. We're never meant to fall. Never meant to crave. But here we are, heading straight for disaster.

Chapter: Savior? No, Just Another Threat.
Raelynn."I should have been scared," I whisper, my voice barely threading through the quiet room. The words feel foreign on my tongue, like a confession I've never allowed myself to speak. "That was probably my first mistake, but all I felt in that moment was relief... and joy."I bite down on my bottom lip until I taste blood, waiting for the inevitable judgment. For Gray to recoil, to call me sick, twisted, broken. But when I steal a glance at him, those patient blue eyes just hold mine—no horror, no disgust. Just him, waiting. The knot in my chest loosens just enough for me to continue.....Three Years Ago. August Third.Jeremy lies crumpled in the rain, his blood mixing with the storm water in rivers of red that has now soaked my shorts. His eyes are still open, but there's nothing behind them anymore. Nothing that can hurt me.My shoulders sag with a relief so profound it makes my knees buckle. For one perfect, terrible moment—despite the rain beating down like fists, despite m

Chapter: August Third.
Raelynn.Three Years Ago, Age Fourteen."Another C in chemistry. I guess you were right—it's a family thing to suck at chemistry." I laugh nervously, trying to make conversation with my dad, but he ignores me, his gaze fixed on the TV. Some news station. He doesn't even like watching the news.A sigh escapes me as I continue reading my report card to him, since he refused to take it from my hands. "B in English, as usual."He gets up and walks past me to the freezer, taking out a carton of milk. My eyes widen in shock as I snatch it from his hand."What are you doing? You're lactose intolerant—"SLAP!My head snaps to the side from the force of his hand. Dad is a big guy, so the pain shouldn't be a surprise, but...I bring my hand up to my cheek. It stings. I glance back at my father, and the man I find looks nothing like him. My dad always has this warmth that radiates off him, draws people close. He never does anything to hurt me. But now his gaze is hard, filled with so much hatred

Chapter: Green or Blue?
Raelynn."Why are you both staring at me like that—" Isaac starts, but Gray cuts him off, his frown deepening into something dangerous."Wrong question. Why are you in here? Shouldn't you be in the hall or just coming back?"Isaac lets out a frustrated sound—more scoff than sigh—and drops his hands that were raised in surrender. "I already said I can explain.""Then go ahead," Gray demands, suspicion dripping from every word. "Explain.""Wait." My voice comes out breathless, causing them both to freeze. I step out from behind Gray's protective stance and move closer to Isaac, my heart hammering against my ribs with each step. Those eyes. Before I can stop myself, my hand flies up, snatching his glasses off his face. The frames scrape against his nose, leaving a red mark, but he doesn't even wince. He just watches me with those piercing green eyes. The room feels smaller, like it's closing on me but i force myself to calm down and try to remember. That night. The image crashes into me

Chapter: The Search.
Raelynn."You want me to call everyone out to the hall?" Mr. Hale asks for the second time. "By three in the morning?"He looks like we just asked him to sacrifice his firstborn.Gray's eyes narrow, the frustration evident in them. "How many times must I repeat myself?"Usually, I would be surprised that he's allowed to speak so defiantly to a teacher, but if I stay one more minute without those letters I'm going to throw hands myself."Can I know what this is about—" he trails off when Gray glares at him and nods, heading to the door obediently."Make sure they don't take anything with them."You'd think he's the teacher rather than us. My gaze shifts to Grayson—his dominance sends a thrill through me, his protective stance when Mr. Hale glances at me like he's trying to figure it out calms me.The moment Mr. Hale steps out, his demeanor changes significantly. He turns to me, his eyes soft and concerned. "While they're all gathered in the hall, we'll search around."I nod, trying not

Chapter: I've Got You.
Grayson. The ceiling of my hotel room has exactly forty-three water stains. I know this because I've been counting them for the past two hours, trying to drown out Jace's voice as he drones on about whatever the hell he thinks is important enough to keep talking about."So why did you choose criminology anyway? Aren't you like a business major?"His voice sounds breathless from talking too much, and I want to smother him with a pillow.I close my eyes, trying to block him out. All I can think about is her. The way Rae looked at me in the garden earlier, the way she pulled her hand away like my touch burned her, the way she said she needed time. The way I fucked everything up so completely that—"Hello? Earth to Grayson?" Jace's voice cuts through my spiraling thoughts.I exhale sharply. "None of your business."But Jace doesn't take the hint. He repeats the question three more times like a manthra until I want to throw something at his head."Will you shut the fuck up?" I snap.Instea

Chapter: You Okay?
Raelynn. The hotel room key card trembles slightly in my hand as I slide it through the reader. The green light blinks, and I push the door open as quietly as possible, hoping Yara's already asleep. I'm not ready for questions I can't answer, for the kind of conversation that requires me to pretend I'm okay when I'm barely holding myself together. But the soft glow of her laptop tells me I'm out of luck."There you are!" Yara's voice echoes as I slip inside. She's curled up on her bed in oversized pajamas, a bag of chips balanced on her stomach as some romantic comedy plays on the screen. "I was starting to think you'd been kidnapped or something."I force a smile, dropping my purse by the door. "Sorry, lost track of time.""Mmm-hmm." She mutes the movie and gives me that look—the one that says she sees right through my bullshit. "It's like two in the morning, babe. I haven't seen you all day, so I just assumed you were with Gray getting your back blown out or whatever."Heat rushes t
